Replacement cylinders must stay with the matching piston, and the cylinder must be aligned before it passes over the rings or the rings can break. The rear-handle heating element must be bonded flat without creases; poor heat transfer can overheat and destroy it.

The step-by-step repair procedures are from the 1990 service manual; the July 2004 section is an illustrated parts catalog, not a second updated repair manual.
