BMW Manual Features & Content Preview
This 125-page scanned PDF reproduces the Portuguese-language BMW 5 Series driver's manual for the 520i, 525i, 530i, 545i, 525d, 530d, and 535d. It is the Portuguese VIII/04 edition, copyright 2004, and is identified by BMW order number 01 49 0 158 388. The manual includes Sedan and Touring information where body configuration or equipment differs; most PDF pages reproduce a complete two-page spread. Coverage is equipment-dependent, so systems such as Active Steering, Dynamic Drive, Head-Up Display, navigation, television, and connected services apply only when fitted.
- Driver controls and vehicle access: Covers the remote keys and Key Memory, central locking and manual release, windows and sunroof, seat and mirror adjustment, seat-belt use, ISOFIX child-restraint mounting, ignition operation, the parking brake, and the manual, SMG, and automatic transmission controls.
- Cockpit, Control Center, and vehicle messages: Maps the instrument cluster and Control Center (iDrive), then explains warning lamps, Check-Control messages, the onboard computer, speed-limit and timer functions, date and unit settings, the Condition Based Service display, Head-Up Display, and the voice-input system.
- Chassis and safety systems: Describes Park Distance Control (PDC), ABS, CBC and DBC brake functions, DSC and DTC stability control, Dynamic Drive, Active Steering, the RPA flat-tire monitor, Touring self-leveling suspension, airbags, two-stage brake lights, and the related fault or status indications.
- Lighting, climate, and convenience equipment: Details exterior-light operation, adaptive headlights, automatic climate-control versions, parked ventilation and heating, interior storage and loading features, and the integrated universal remote control. Sedan- and Touring-specific arrangements are shown where they differ.
- Navigation, entertainment, and communication: Covers Business and Professional DVD navigation, destination entry, route guidance, map and arrow displays, traffic information, Business and Professional radio functions, CD player and changer operation, television, telephone and Bluetooth functions, TeleService, BMW Assist, and BMW Online.
- Mobility and owner-service procedures: Includes fuel-grade guidance for gasoline and diesel models, tire-pressure and run-flat information, winter tires and snow chains, engine-oil and coolant checks, brake-system and CBS maintenance information, OBD socket location, wiper and bulb replacement, wheel changing, battery and fuse handling, jump-starting, towing, and roadside equipment.
Factory Operating Reference and Diagnostic Context
This manual is strongest as an OEM operating and warning-message reference. The illustrated Control Center screens show how menus, settings, service requirements, navigation functions, audio sources, and connected services are intended to appear and respond. For owners and repair technicians, that makes it useful for confirming whether a feature is misconfigured, unavailable because of the installed equipment level, or presenting a genuine Check-Control fault before diagnostic or repair work begins.
The technical-data section separates the covered gasoline and diesel variants and provides engine output and torque data, fuel-consumption and CO2 tables, Sedan and Touring dimensions, vehicle and towing weights, cargo capacities, and performance figures. It also includes capacity data for the fuel tank, windshield and headlight washer systems, and model-specific engine-oil fills. A separate quick-reference section lists supported voice commands for communication, navigation, vehicle settings, and entertainment functions.
Owner-Service Depth and Repair Limits
The repair content stops at owner-level service and roadside work. It explains the relevant inspections, basic replacements, and emergency procedures, but it is not a workshop repair manual. It does not contain internal engine or transmission repair procedures, component-overhaul instructions, factory torque tables, wiring schematics, module test plans, or diesel particulate filter regeneration procedures.
The safety notes are specific to the systems covered. Xenon-lighting work is reserved for trained personnel because of the system's high voltage. The fuse section warns against repairing a blown fuse or installing one with a different rating because the electrical system may be overloaded and create a fire risk. The cooling-system pages also warn against opening the system while hot. These limits are important when deciding whether this driver's manual is the correct publication for the planned repair.
