Engine, Hydraulic, and Electrical Service
Toro expects this manual to be used with the Operator’s Manual and Parts Catalog for the machine’s exact model and serial number. Engine scope differs by model. The Groundsmaster 345 chapter covers VSG-411 specifications, belt and governor adjustment, crankshaft-pulley installation, engine removal and installation, and the date-code 2D21 change from four to five main bearings. Internal Ford engine repair is referred to the separate VSG-411/413 engine manual.
The Mitsubishi K3D chapter for the 322-D and 325-D contains the internal overhaul material in this PDF: valve-clearance and engine-speed adjustment, glow-plug and compression testing, nozzle and injection-pump tests, injection timing, fuel-system bleeding, pump and injector service, engine removal, and cylinder-head and cylinder-block overhaul. Injection-pump delivery calibration is still identified as specialist-shop work requiring dedicated fixtures.
For the Groundsmaster 328-D, the PDF supplies Kubota 1105 specifications and the traction-unit engine removal and installation reference. Internal Kubota troubleshooting, testing, disassembly, and assembly require the separate Kubota 05 Series Workshop Manual, Toro P/N 01090SL. This is an important scope difference for a planned 328-D engine rebuild.
The hydraulic chapter maps the 2WD and 4WD circuits and traces oil flow during forward traction, cutting-unit lift, and steering. Groundsmaster 322-D/325-D diagrams are split at S/N 20,000,000, and the 328-D has a dedicated schematic. Later coverage adds charging and glow-system checks, relays, fusible links, diode assemblies, ignition-delay and glow controls, and two-wire or three-wire run solenoids.
Drivetrain, Cutting Units, and Factory Reference Data
Mechanical repair coverage extends through the Dana GT-20 differential, Inasaka over-running clutch, Dae Dong bevel-gear cases, differential shafts, ring-and-pinion contact patterns, and bidirectional clutch. The steering and brake chapter includes valve and pump tests, cylinder leakage testing, toe-in and brake adjustment, bearing and bushing service, steering-cylinder repair, brake-shoe replacement, and steering-valve overhaul. PTO work includes coupler and pulley alignment, belt and brake service, shaft bearings, drive-shaft removal, and universal-joint replacement.

Several cautions address assembly errors that can ruin serviceable parts. Reversing the hydrostatic charge-pump housing can eliminate all hydraulic function, while forcing the shaft can shear the gerotor drive pin. Mitsubishi injection-pump adjusting plates and cylinder-specific pump parts must remain indexed and matched or recalibration will be required; PTO shaft yokes must remain in phase or universal-joint life will be shortened.
Before testing or repair, lower and support the cutting unit, relieve hydraulic pressure, isolate the battery as directed, and keep clear of rotating PTO, fan, and blade components. The brake chapter also retains Toro’s asbestos-lining precautions, which remain relevant when servicing original brake hardware.
