Getting the baseline right on a utility ATV starts with the factory numbers. This publication covers the controls, pre-operation checks, riding techniques, scheduled maintenance, adjustments, minor repair work, troubleshooting, cleaning, storage, and specifications for these models.
It walks through the L/H/N/R/P drive select, On-Command 2WD/4WD and 4WD/DIFF.LOCK switches, override function, multi-function display, self-diagnosis error-code screen, throttle limiter, and five-position front and rear spring-preload settings. Operating limits include a normal differential-lock speed restriction of 35 km/h (22 mph) and a maximum depth of 35 cm (14 in) for slow-moving shallow-water crossings.
Factory maintenance charts are organized by time, mileage, or operating hours—whichever comes first. They begin at 1 month/320 km (200 mi)/20 hours and 3 months/1,300 km (800 mi)/80 hours, then continue in 6-month/2,500 km (1,600 mi)/160-hour increments. Exact Specs & Fluid Requirements
The specifications identify a 558 cc liquid-cooled, four-stroke SOHC single-cylinder engine with a 92.0 × 84.0 mm bore and stroke, 9.30:1 compression ratio, fuel injection, wet centrifugal automatic clutch, V-belt primary drive, and shaft-drive secondary reduction.
Recommended engine-oil viscosities are SAE 5W-30, 10W-30, 10W-40, 15W-40, 20W-40, or 20W-50 according to ambient temperature, with API SG or higher and JASO MA performance. Capacity is 2.00 L (2.11 US qt) without filter replacement or 2.10 L (2.22 US qt) with a new filter. Final-gear and differential capacities are 0.20 L and 0.22 L, using SAE 80 API GL-4 hypoid gear oil. Cooling-system data gives 1.99 L radiator capacity, a 0.24 L reservoir, and a 1:1 ethylene-glycol/distilled-water mixture. Brake fluid is DOT 4; fuel capacity is 20.0 L with a 4.5 L reserve.

Repair Scope and Manual-Specific Cautions
This is an owner’s manual, not the factory service manual. Its repair scope is preventive maintenance, adjustments, troubleshooting, and minor repair operations; it does not contain internal engine, clutch/V-belt transmission, final-gear, differential, fuel-injection, EPS, or brake-hydraulic overhaul procedures, and it does not provide wiring diagrams. Yamaha directs valve-clearance adjustment, brake-component repair, drive-select safety-cable adjustment, and wheel-hub-bearing repair to dealer service. The nitrogen-charged shock absorbers are not to be opened or heated.
Oil selection is a machine-specific repair trap because the engine oil also lubricates the wet clutch: CD-rated diesel oils and oils marked “ENERGY CONSERVING II” or higher can cause clutch slippage. During air-filter service, twisting the foam element or failing to seat it correctly can damage the element or admit unfiltered air, leading to rapid engine wear. The brake system requires DOT 4 only; the wrong fluid can deteriorate rubber seals, while mixing fluid types can cause a harmful chemical reaction.
