Suzuki Manual Features & Content Preview
- 775-page PDF set: a 580-page Suzuki Factory Service Manual, P/N 99500-39370-03E (September 2008, revised April 2009), and a 195-page VZ1500 Owner's Manual, P/N 99011-40H50-03A (K9, July 2008).
- Coverage is limited to the VZ1500 K9 (2009 model): E-02 U.K., E-19 E.U., E-03 U.S. except California, E-24 Australia, E-28 Canada, and E-33 California, with factory effective-frame-number references. No later-model supplement is included.
- Engine repair content covers assembly removal and installation, top- and bottom-end teardown and reassembly, cylinder-head and valve-seat work, cam timing and valve-clearance service, piston and ring inspection, and crankshaft/conrod bearing selection.
- Fuel-injection diagnosis addresses Suzuki Diagnostic System (SDS) checks, stored-fault data and reset procedures, DTC and fail-safe tables, code-specific circuit testing, fuel-pressure and delivery checks, throttle-body synchronization, sensor adjustment, and ISC initialization.
- Transmission and shaft-drive procedures cover clutch and five-speed gearbox service, secondary and final bevel-gear disassembly, shim selection, backlash and tooth-contact adjustment, universal-joint inspection, and wheel-damper inspection.
- Chassis and brake repair includes fork disassembly, swingarm and rear-suspension service, wheel bearings and balance, steering-stem bearings and tension, brake bleeding, and front/rear master-cylinder and caliper disassembly and inspection.

Factory Scope for the K9 M90
This two-volume set pairs Suzuki's Factory Service Manual with the matching K9 Owner's Manual. Regional coverage matters: the service manual separates California EVAP equipment and market-specific oxygen-sensor, lighting, fuel, and emissions information so the correct components and test sections can be identified before work begins.
Suzuki expressly states that the service manual is written for people who already have sufficient motorcycle-service knowledge, skills, and proper tools, including special tools. Routine owner procedures and riding information are handled separately in the owner's manual.
Diagnosis, Overhaul, and Factory Data
FI troubleshooting goes beyond a symptom list. The manual covers the self-diagnostic display, SDS data recorded at the time of a fault, ECM terminal alignment, and circuit diagnosis for the CKP, TP/STP, ECT, injector, idle-speed-control, fuel-pump-relay, and cooling-fan-relay systems. Regional chapters address PAIR, crankcase ventilation, HO2 sensors, and California EVAP hardware. Engine sections carry the repair from compression and oil-pressure checks through full disassembly, inspection, assembly, and adjustment.
Reference data spans component-specific torque tables, approved fluids and capacities, wear and service limits, clearances, pressure tests, electrical test values, bearing-selection tables, and bevel-gear shim charts. Named factory tools include the SDS set (09904-41010), mode-select switch (09930-82720), final-drive backlash tool (09924-34510), and front-fork assembling tool (09940-30221).
Owner Operation and Scheduled Care
The matching owner's manual documents the control layout, combination display, warning indicators and FI messages, ignition and steering locks, handlebar switches, gearshift, side-stand interlock, and rear-suspension preload. It also covers break-in and pre-ride inspection, starting, shifting, braking, passenger and loading limits, the periodic maintenance chart, lubrication points, and owner service for the battery, air cleaner, spark plugs, oil and filter, throttle and clutch cables, coolant, final gear oil, brakes, tires, wheels, bulbs, and fuses.
Troubleshooting, storage and return-to-service, cleaning, emissions and noise information, labels, serial-number locations, and full motorcycle specifications round out the rider-side reference.
Repair Cautions Specific to the VZ1500
Factory cautions include not snapping a disconnected throttle valve from open to fully closed, which can damage the valve and throttle body. The shaft-drive chapter also requires tooth contact and backlash to be rechecked together; an incorrect shim setup can leave the bevel gears improperly meshed and damage the gearset.
Brake, fuel, cooling, and electrical repair should be performed only with the precautions and equipment Suzuki specifies, since improper service can leave the motorcycle unsafe.
