Ignition Testing and Wiring Identification

The electrical chapters distinguish black-stator switch-box ignition, red-stator systems with adapter modules, and capacitor discharge module (CDM) systems. The Ignition System DVA Specifications Test Chart assigns checks to stator part numbers and serial ranges; CDM testing uses harness 84-825207A2.

The stop-diode charts help trace a lost-spark complaint to one failed CDM, even when other cylinders also stop firing. Wiring references cover engine harnesses, battery isolators, COMMANDER 2000 controls, power trim, tachometers, and trim indicators.

Ignition testing and fuel service involve high voltage and flammable gasoline; follow the manual's electrical-isolation and fire-prevention precautions.

Carburetion, Oil Injection, and Powerhead Inspection

The WME Carburetor Chart and High Altitude Jet Chart distinguish carburetor builds and jetting. Enrichener testing and hose-routing references accompany the Acceleration Pump Fuel Flow Circuit for four-cylinder engines. Trim Variants and Drive Repairs

Separate power-trim chapters cover black-fill-plug units through USA serial 0G360002/Belgium 9934136 and yellow-fill-plug units from USA 0G360003/Belgium 9934137. Power Trim Flow Diagrams show the trim, tilt, shock, and manual-release circuits.

The earlier trim motor has internal test and repair coverage. The yellow-fill-plug trim motor and the manual-tilt accumulator are serviced by assembly replacement.

Shock-absorber coverage includes removal, inspection, and installation; internal rebuilding is referred to the separate instructions supplied with repair kit 41760A2.

Gearcase identification distinguishes three-jaw and six-jaw reverse-clutch designs. Lower-unit service includes bearing and shim references plus pressure testing. The jet-drive chapter separates the 65 Jet and 80 Jet assemblies and covers liner replacement and bearing-carrier rebuilding.

The lower-unit installation notes explain how trapped lubricant at the driveshaft tip can prevent full engagement and damage the powerhead or gear housing as the fasteners are tightened.

A Selection of Bore, Lubricant, and Charging Data

These examples represent a small selection of the manual's inspection and service specifications. Powerhead data lists a standard cylinder bore of 3.50 in. (88.9 mm) and a maximum taper/out-of-round limit of 0.003 in. (0.076 mm).

Conventional propeller gearcases are listed at 22.5 fl. oz. of lubricant. At 5250 RPM, the charging table specifies 14 or 16 amps for three-cylinder electric-start models, depending on the stator and serial range, and 16 amps for four-cylinder electric-start models.
