Engine Repair and Serial-Number Changes

The publication is divided into "Mechanism" and "Disassembling and Servicing." Construction drawings explain the vertical 4-cycle engine's cylinder block, piston movement and valve train; the repair sections cover disassembly, inspection and reassembly.

The idle-gear tables distinguish three shaft-and-bushing sizes by engine serial number. These distinctions help match the correct hardware and inspection limits before parts are selected.

Cylinder-head work includes flatness and crack checks, valve-stem and guide measurements, guide replacement and valve-seat correction. Torque tables cover cylinder-head fasteners and bearing-case screws.

Separate specifications cover VH1100-B intake-valve geometry and model-specific piston-ring end gaps. The V1200-B uses different piston profiles in its inner and outer cylinders.

Crankshaft service covers bearing clearances, journal inspection, sleeve replacement and undersize-bearing options. Dry-liner repair includes replacement, boring and honing. Piston-installation cautions identify the risk of scratching chrome-plated ring surfaces and causing liner trouble.

Bosch Injection Pump, Nozzles and Governor

Pump-element and delivery-valve tightness tests are documented separately. Nozzle testing uses tester 07909-31361 and includes needle-valve-seat leakage checks as well as opening-pressure adjustment.

The all-speed centrifugal ball governor is explained through starting, idling, load changes and stopping. Component removal and installation cover the governor springs, fork-lever assembly and fuel camshaft.

The manual discourages routine injection-pump disassembly and requires fuel-delivery adjustment on a specified test bench after pump-element replacement. Observe its injection-spray precautions during nozzle testing; pressurized fuel presents an injection-injury hazard.

Oil Pressure, Cooling and Scheduled Maintenance

Lubrication data includes model-specific oil capacities and pressure limits at idle and rated speed. V1100-B and V1200-B engines have separate rated-speed pressure specifications, and the oil-pressure test identifies tester 07916-32031.

Cooling system values include exact thermostat opening temperatures, along with radiator-cap leakage criteria. Water-pump repair covers the impeller, shaft and mechanical seal, with seal replacement specified during reassembly.

Maintenance intervals cover oil and filters, fuel lines, air-cleaner service and cooling-system checks. The oil-filter instructions warn that overtightening can deform the rubber gasket.

Wiring Diagrams and Fault Diagnosis

Illustrations include the engine wiring diagram, regulator operating schematics, engine oil-flow diagram, injection-pump exploded view and governor operating diagrams. The regulator schematics distinguish key-switch-on, engine-starting, charging and overcharge-control conditions.

The regulator continuity chart identifies terminal colors and test combinations. Starter repair extends to the solenoid, armature, brushes, commutator and mica, supported by electrical inspection specifications.

The troubleshooting section cross-references common symptoms directly with their mechanical causes and service pages. Tables address hard starting, uneven running, exhaust smoke, oil-pressure problems and overheating.
