RB310 Engine, Maintenance, and Diagnostic Coverage
The RB310 publication describes a water-cooled inline three-cylinder, four-stroke gasoline engine with a belt-driven SOHC and hydraulic valve lash adjusters. The mechanical section includes both on-vehicle checks and internal engine repair. Procedures cover compression, vacuum, and oil-pressure testing; intake and exhaust work; timing-component removal and installation; oil pan, strainer, and trochoid oil-pump service; camshaft and lash-adjuster diagnosis; cylinder-head and valve repair; piston, rod, and cylinder inspection; and engine assembly overhaul. Cooling chapters address system circulation, thermostat and water-pump service, coolant diagnosis, and belt adjustment, while the fuel section handles the tank, pump assembly, and feed, return, and vapor lines.
The maintenance chapter separates normal and severe-use schedules and covers drive and timing belts, oil and filter, coolant, exhaust, spark plugs, air cleaner, fuel and evaporative systems, brakes, clutch free travel, wheel bearings, suspension and steering checks, transmission fluids, latches, hinges, and final inspection. Component-specific torque data, pressure-test specifications, clearances, wear limits, capacities, and electrical values are placed with the related repair sections.
Engine diagnosis follows the workshop sequence: customer complaint record, MIL check, DTC retrieval and clearing, visual inspection, basic engine inspection, symptom table, scan-data interpretation, and circuit-level testing. Flowcharts address MAP, IAT, ECT, and throttle-position inputs; both heated oxygen sensors and their heater circuits; lean and rich fuel correction; misfire; CKP and CMP signals; catalyst efficiency; purge, radiator-fan, VSS, and idle-control circuits; and ECM power or ground faults.
The connector tables map E21, E22, and E23 pins to circuit function, normal voltage conditions, and resistance checks. RB413 Full-Time 4WD Drivetrain and Brake Supplement
The second publication adds the 4WD-specific work that differs from the baseline RB413 manual. Coverage includes safe lifting and test procedures, rear axle shaft, wheel-bearing, and oil-seal repair, rear axle housing service, propeller-shaft joint checks, brake-pressure testing for LSPV-equipped vehicles, rear brake pipe and valve service, brake drum and back-plate work, and 4WD ABS/EBD diagnosis. The ABS material includes the system schematic, system circuit, E20 terminal arrangement, 4WD G sensor, rear wheel-speed sensors and rings, and a model-specific DTC table.
Drivetrain repair extends through engine, transmission, and transfer assembly removal; differential-side oil seals; shift cables; five-speed manual-transmission dismounting and reassembly; clutch-release overhaul; transfer disassembly and setup; and rear-differential overhaul. Transfer and axle chapters include shim selection, bearing preload, backlash measurement, gear-tooth contact diagnosis, oil-seal installation, final operational checks, and dedicated special tools.
The publications also flag several model-specific repair traps. The full-time 4WD system cannot be manually converted to 2WD; using a two-wheel dynamometer or towing with one axle unable to rotate can drive the opposite axle and damage the drivetrain. The engine oil pan must not be used as a jacking point because the small clearance to the oil-pump strainer can damage the pickup. Transfer and rear-differential hypoid gears are matched sets; incorrect replacement, shimming, preload, backlash, or tooth contact can cause noise and rapid gear damage.
The RB310 A/C chapter is limited to the model-specific wiring circuit and ECM checks and refers basic refrigerant service to Suzuki A/C Basic Manual 99520-02130. The publications restrict SRS work to authorized Suzuki service and provide specific precautions for pressurized fuel, refrigerant handling, brake repair, and full-time 4WD lifting or testing.
