Ricoh Manual Features & Content Preview
- July 2007 factory service manual for the Ricoh Toscana-C1a (J012), Toscana-C1b (J013), and Toscana-C1bN (J014) multifunction series, in a 365-page PDF.
- Print head maintenance covers nozzle checks, cleaning, flushing, technician-only drive cleaning, and head-position, paper-feed, and print-start registration adjustments.
- Illustrated mechanical repair procedures cover horizontal encoder strip and vertical encoder wheel replacement, drive-motor removal, and replacement of the maintenance and flushing units.
- Board-service coverage includes printer engine CTL board/NVRAM replacement, power supply unit (PSU) and high-voltage power supply (HVPS) removal, and duplex-unit detection board replacement.
- SC error and jam-code tables link faults to likely causes and affected components, with separate fax transmit/receive error lists.
- The Board Circuit Diagram and Board Layout Diagram support electrical diagnosis alongside component-location views for the printer engine, scanner, and ARDF.
Model Coverage and Options
J012 has a platen and no ARDF or fax. J013/J014 have the automatic reversing document feeder and fax functions. The J510 Network Interface Board (NIB) Type GX4 is optional on J012/J013 and standard on J014. PCL printing is specific to J014; all three support RPCS Raster.
Installation coverage includes the Paper Feed Unit TK2000 (J509) and Multi Bypass Tray Type BY1000 (J507). The standard duplex unit is part of the paper path and must remain installed even for single-sided printing.
Operation and Maintenance Procedures
The manual uses a swap-and-repair approach. Its removal tables identify access requirements and distinguish user replacement, technician work, and factory-precision items. The ink supply pump unit is classified as factory-adjusted and not field-replaceable. Scanner CTL board and NCU replacement is handled through a complete scanner-unit swap.
Scanner replacement coverage includes Device Setting Utility address-book backup and restoration. An engine-unit swap excludes the scanner, ADF, and controller housed in the scanner. The NVRAM replacement tables identify lost settings and counters, including print-head rank and gamma settings, and specify replacement of the ink collector and flushing unit when their stored counts are lost.
Preventive maintenance centers on service-call cleaning rather than scheduled replacement of PM parts. Cleaning procedures address the suction cap and wiper, hardened ink around the flushing gate, and paper-feed surfaces. Separate instructions cover the transport belt and horizontal encoder strip.
System descriptions explain the dual-tank ink supply, ink-pump drive, air-release filling, and electrostatic belt transfer. They distinguish the ink collector tank from the separate flushing sump.
The maintenance-unit instructions warn that moving the carriage with the envelope selector incorrectly positioned can damage the print heads. The control-board removal section also warns that forcing its cover bracket can shear components off the board.
Service Modes and Diagnostic Tests
The publication separates Service Mode for scanner, ADF, and fax functions from SP Mode for the printer engine. CCD/ADF zoom and registration adjustments reference Color Chart-4. Functional tests cover ADF feeding and repeated CCD scanning; fax tests include resolution copying, signals, and relays.
SP tables document sensor input checks, encoder readings, temperature/humidity monitoring, ink-level data, and fault histories. Bit switch summaries cover software-controlled functions. Factory-use and unused entries are identified rather than presented as routine service adjustments.
The Main Nozzle Check Pattern illustrates missing or broken nozzle lines. Startup fault tracing is organized in the Self-Diagnostic Test Flow, while the Engine Summary Chart records current SP settings.
Installation Specifications and Firmware Updates
The installation chapter breaks down operating environment requirements and details computer hardware compatibility for the Windows versions listed in this edition. Electrical requirements, machine weights, and media restrictions are tabulated alongside scanner, ADF, and controller specifications.
Firmware coverage addresses the printer, Ethernet board, and master controller. Updates require a USB-connected PC, with RPCS raster and TWAIN driver prerequisites; these modules cannot be updated over the network using the documented procedure.
For electrical repair, follow the manual’s power-disconnection precautions before opening the machine or servicing the power-supply assemblies.
