Its engine-identification section locates the block stamping and decodes the L4GC number, including the LPG fuel designation and production-year characters. The main specification table identifies the covered build as a 1,975 cc, four-cylinder DOHC engine. This is an industrial-engine publication, not a complete Sonata passenger-car workshop manual.

Mechanical coverage goes well beyond routine maintenance. The cylinder-block section documents inspection for distortion, taper, and cylinder wear, followed by installation data. Front-case and oil-pump service includes removal, gear-clearance checks, relief-valve inspection, oil-seal installation, and reassembly.

The main moving system addresses camshafts, hydraulic lash adjusters, timing chain and guides, crankshaft journals and bearings, flywheel and housing, pistons, pins, rings, connecting rods, and bearing-clearance checks. Cylinder-head repair includes disassembly, flatness inspection, valve and guide measurement, spring testing, valve-seat correction and replacement, guide replacement, stem-seal installation, reassembly, and head-bolt sequencing.

One important repair trap is stated plainly: incorrect camshaft and crankshaft indexing at No. 1 TDC can cause piston-to-valve interference. The manual also warns that over-tightening the plastic cylinder-head cover can deform it or break a fastener, leading to oil leakage and possible cylinder-head repair.

The separate 2004 Sonata Owner’s Manual covers vehicle operation, occupant safety, emergency procedures, scheduled maintenance, owner checks, emission-control information, and specifications for the 2.4L DOHC and 2.7L V6 passenger-car configurations.
