How the 22 Groups Work

The first ten groups form the full base shop manual: general information, periodic maintenance, engine, shaft drive, cooling, fuel and lubrication, emission controls, electrical, chassis, and servicing information. Groups 11 through 22 are cumulative supplements for later models. They record only the specifications, components, procedures, wiring, or routing that changed and direct the technician back to the earlier groups for everything that remained the same. A later VS800 section is therefore used together with the base chapters and the applicable intervening updates; it is not a stand-alone abbreviated manual.

The individual change chapters are labeled for VS700GLE and VS700GLH; VS750GLJ, VS750GLK, and the 1990 L and 1991 M GLF/GLP variants; and VS800GLN, P/R, S, T/V, W/X, Y/K1/K2/K3, and K4. GLF/GLP configurations, market codes, California-related emission equipment, and year-specific carburetor, electrical, steering, cable-routing, and service-data changes are separated where the factory documentation calls them out.

Repair Depth and Shop Reference

The engine section goes well beyond routine maintenance. Suzuki treats the drive and driven bevel gears as matched pairs, and the manual requires backlash to be checked again after tooth-contact adjustment. Missing either point can leave the bevel gears with an incorrect contact pattern and put the gears and bearings at risk of damage.

Fuel-system coverage identifies the front and rear carburetor circuits, including diaphragm and piston operation, slow, transient-enrichment, main, starter, and float systems.
