The XA manual supplies the main repair procedures. The XP foreword directs technicians to use it together with the XA manual and the XE, XJ and California XKC supplements for service information that did not change.

YFM350S coverage is supplementary: its foreword specifies the 3GD-AE5 base manual and 3GD-AE6 supplement for complete service information. Those exact editions are not included in this collection.

Engine Overhaul, Carburetor Service and Circuit Diagnosis

The selected service topics below are not a full contents list. Further examples include wire-cylinder inspection and headlight beam adjustment.

• Engine and transmission repair: Step-by-step procedures for engine removal, internal disassembly, inspection, reassembly and final adjustment, including clutch, primary-drive, balancer and shifter work.

• Carburetion and routine setup: Carburetor teardown, float and fuel-level adjustment, idle and throttle settings, speed-limiter adjustment, valve-clearance service, ignition-timing checks, compression testing and air-filter maintenance.

• Chassis and brakes: Wheel and hub repair, drive-chain slack and alignment, master-cylinder and caliper service, hydraulic bleeding, steering, front suspension, rear shock and swingarm work.

Yamaha wrote these manuals primarily for dealer technicians and qualified mechanics who already understand mechanical repair.

Internal Engine Inspection and Assembly

Top end: The XA manual details decompression components, the cam chain, cylinder head and piston. Inspection coverage includes valve seats and guides, camshaft and sprocket condition, rocker arms, piston wear and piston rings; assembly material covers cam timing.

Bottom end: Crankcase separation leads into crankshaft, connecting-rod and transmission work. Checks cover gears, shifter parts, bearings, oil seals, clutch plates and oil-pump clearances. Assembly references include the A.C. magneto, starter drive, shift shaft, oil filter, neutral switch, clutch setup and engine installation.

Carburetor Variants and Fuel-System Views

The XA material identifies the BTM36SH/Mikuni carburetor, while the S supplement covers the BSR36/Mikuni unit. XA section views distinguish the coasting enricher, main and slow circuits, float system, starter system and acceleration pump.

The XKC publication isolates California carburetor data, and XP tables distinguish California and non-California identification and calibration information. Match the printed model code and identification data before selecting parts, specifications or repair procedures.

Chassis Checks and Electrical Fault Isolation

Periodic chassis sections add toe-in, wheel-bearing, tire and brake-fluid inspections to the repair coverage. Rear-axle procedures include shaft, bearing and seal checks.

Starting-circuit explanations show how the cut-off relay, neutral, clutch and drive-select switches affect starter operation. The diagnostic charts help distinguish interlock faults from starter-motor problems and connect symptoms to the relevant component tests.

The XJ supplement explains the park-switch-controlled engine revolution limiter; XP adds revised ignition and signal-system troubleshooting. Full wiring diagrams identify the CDI unit, relays, switches, starter, indicators, lamps and color-coded harness connections.

Routing Diagrams and Workshop Tools

Lubrication-path diagrams, carburetor section views, exploded assemblies, ignition and signal circuit diagrams, and full wiring diagrams support the procedures. Routing sheets track throttle and clutch cables, brake hoses, switch and battery leads, breather and overflow hoses, and harness runs around the CDI unit, rectifier/regulator and starter relay.

Special-tool references include the YU-01135 crankcase separator with YM-1382 adapter, YM-04019 valve spring compressor, YM-34487 dynamic spark tester and YU-03112 pocket tester. S-section callouts add the YU-33975 steering nut wrench and YM-37134 axle nut wrench.

Axle Protection, Filter Handling and Clutch Indexing

The rear-axle instructions warn that hammering the axle end directly can damage its threads and splines. The air-filter section warns that twisting or wringing can damage the foam, while operating without the element can cause rapid internal engine wear.

The S clutch section illustrates push-lever indexing during right-crankcase-cover installation so the release mechanism is not assembled out of index.

Secure the ATV on a stable stand before engine, axle, suspension or brake work. Do not open or heat the gas-charged rear shock, and complete hydraulic brake repair with the specified fluid and proper bleeding before returning the machine to service.

Preview: Cold Valve Clearances and Ignition-Coil Test Data

The XA valve-clearance section specifies 0.06–0.10 mm for the intake valve and 0.16–0.20 mm for the exhaust valve, with the engine cold.

For the XP ignition coil, the maintenance and troubleshooting tables specify primary-winding resistance of 0.18–0.28 Ω at 20°C (68°F), alongside test connections and fault-isolation charts.
