Early 2CX machines use a 58 L/min Single-Priority pump and a 220 bar (3,200 psi) MRV; from serial 658961 the main pump remains rated at 58 L/min, while 2DX machines add a 28 L/min auxiliary pump and use a 240 bar (3,500 psi) main relief setting. Steering is full-power hydrostatic with an OSPCLS unit, with a 139 bar relief setting and 193 bar shock-valve setting. The Hydraulic Tool Circuit is specified at 138 bar (2,000 psi), and its section includes flow and pressure testing.

Capacity charts are split by build. Hydraulic-system capacity is 77 L on early 2CX machines and 82 L on later configurations; Syncro Shuttle capacity is 17.5 L. Engine oil changes from 10.7 L to 11.1 L across the listed serial breaks, while coolant changes from 11 L to 12 L. SD40 and SD55 axle housings and hubs have separate oil capacities. Routine service schedules run from 10-hour/daily and 50-hour/weekly checks through 500-, 1,000-, and 2,000-hour intervals.

Transmission, Axles, Electrical, and Test Data

The transmission section covers both SD40 and SD55 axles, including open and limited-slip drive heads, crownwheel and pinion adjustment, hubs, driveshafts, propshafts, and axle removal/replacement. SD40 is identified for 2CX/210S machines, with a factory note that machines from serial 489724 use SD55 axles. SD55 coverage also applies to configurations including the 2DX, 2CXU, 210SL, 210FM, and 212SU.

The Syncro Shuttle is identified as type SS400, combining the torque converter, reverser, gearbox, and integral parking brake. Repair coverage includes gearbox and reverser-unit overhaul, clutch-pack work, torque-converter replacement, stall testing, and pressure/flow diagnosis. At 50°C and 2,000 rpm, specified mainline pressure is 10.7–11.7 bar, while forward/reverse clutch pressure is 9–11 bar.

Electrical coverage is keyed to serial ranges, with fuse/relay data, wire-number identification, harness references, charging and starting tests, and circuit diagrams. UNF Grade ‘S’ and Metric Grade 8.8 torque tables are included. The manual specifies dry-thread values with a ±3% allowance where a single figure is given, and notes that lubricated-thread values may require a one-third reduction.

Repair Notes and Scope Limits

Several factory notes show why the correct repair data matters. During SD40/SD55 drive-head assembly, exceeding the specified rolling torque distorts the collapsible pinion spacer, which then has to be renewed. Later metric-threaded ram end caps use different seals and orientation, and the specified protection sleeve prevents rod-seal damage during assembly. For rubber-glazed cab glass, the manual specifies a nylon spatula because a metal tool can chip the glass edge.

Engine Section K provides technical data rather than a full engine rebuild section. It identifies builds including 1004-4LR2/AA50429, AA50525, and later North American 1004-40AJ/AJ50686 and 1004-42AR/AR50696, then directs deeper engine repair to separate JCB Engine Service Manuals 9806/0100 or 9806/2140. Air-conditioning charging and discharging procedures are also expressly outside this manual because they require specialist refrigeration equipment and training.

Revision markings are section-level rather than uniform across the entire publication. In the supplied 381-page PDF, steering service data is handled under Section E Hydraulics; there is no separate Section H page set.

Hydraulic and brake circuits can retain dangerous pressure, and raised loader/backhoe structures require secure support. Follow the manual’s safety procedures and use qualified personnel for repair work outside your training or equipment level.
