Model and File Coverage

These are shop-level Suzuki publications, not owner's manuals. Suzuki states that the manuals assume technicians already have sufficient service knowledge, skills, shop equipment, and the specified special tools; they are not beginner repair guides. Model-year scope is limited to the codes listed here rather than every Bandit produced from 1996 through 2006.

The set contains 1,492 PDF pages across four files: a 356-page combined file with the 266-page GSF1200S base manual P/N 99500-39131-03E and 90-page GSF1200SA ABS supplement P/N 99501-39260-03E; a 322-page GSF1200SK1 scan; a 368-page GSF1200S/GSF1200 K1-K2 manual P/N 99500-39201-01E; and a 446-page K6 manual P/N 99500-39280-01E. The 322-page SK1 file repeats the 313-page K1/SK1 core found in the 368-page edition, then adds a nine-page Emission Control Information chapter, so the total page count includes that overlap. The K6 PDF carries a visible SAMPLE watermark.

The K6 manual gives the following effective frame numbers:

Engine and Carburetor Work by Generation

All three generations use the 1,157 cc air-cooled DOHC four-cylinder, but their carburetor sections are model-specific: the 1997 book specifies MIKUNI BST36 units, K1/K2 uses BSR36SS, and K6 uses BSR36. Engine chapters cover cylinder-head overhaul, valve-guide and seat repair, cam-chain components, pistons and rings, connecting rods and crankshaft, bearing selection, the oil pump, oil cooler, and cylinder-head cooling circuits. Transmission material reaches the gear sets, shift forks and cam, linkage adjustment, clutch pack, master cylinder, and release cylinder.

Fuel-system sections explain the vacuum-operated fuel valve and the slow, main, starter-enricher, float, and diaphragm circuits before moving into rack disassembly and setup. K1/K2 data distinguishes regional carburetor calibration, while K6 identifies carburetor-heater and thermo-switch service for E-02/E-19 machines. The separate SK1 emissions chapter covers close-tolerance emission jets, the California canister and purge-control valve, and PAIR inspection with its specified vacuum-test equipment. The K2 chapter is a change-data section: it refers general repair procedures back to K1 while providing K2 specifications, separate naked/faired service data, wiring diagrams, and harness routing.

1997 ABS and Electrical Troubleshooting

The 1997 GSF1200SAV supplement adds dedicated ABS material: operating theory, wheel-speed sensors, ECU and hydraulic-unit circuits, warning-light behavior, self-diagnosis, stored malfunction codes, component tests, code deletion, and operation checks. Suzuki treats the wheel-speed sensors, ECU, and hydraulic unit as non-disassemblable precision assemblies; the manual covers testing, removal, and replacement rather than internal overhaul. The K6/SK6 publication has no dedicated K6 ABS repair chapter.

Electrical sections trace the regulated charging circuit, battery leakage, starter motor and relay, digital ignitor, CKP and throttle-position sensors, side-stand interlock, combination meter, and fuel-level circuit. System-specific troubleshooting tables support fault isolation before component repair begins.

Factory Diagrams, Special Tools, and Cautions

Named references include the ABS coupler connection diagram, ABS wiring diagram, basic ABS troubleshooting diagram, engine lubrication system chart, cylinder-head cooling system chart, and model/market-specific wiring diagrams. Exploded assembly views identify tightening, lubrication, sealant, and replacement points throughout the manuals.

Specified tools include the 09930-82710 ABS test switch, 09913-13121 carburetor balancer, 09917-47010 vacuum pump gauge, and 09940-52861 front-fork oil-seal installer. The carburetor section warns that compressed air applied before diaphragm removal can damage the diaphragm. The engine chapter cautions that uneven tightening or substitution of the special camshaft-journal-holder bolts can damage the cylinder head or holder thrust surfaces.

Brake and ABS work, wheel and steering service, and internal engine repair directly affect safe operation. Follow the model-specific factory warnings and have safety-critical work checked by a qualified motorcycle technician.
