Engine and Carburetor Work by Generation

All three generations use the 1,157 cc air-cooled DOHC four-cylinder, but their carburetor sections are model-specific: the 1997 book specifies MIKUNI BST36 units, K1/K2 uses BSR36SS, and K6 uses BSR36. 1997 ABS and Electrical Troubleshooting

The 1997 GSF1200SAV supplement adds dedicated ABS material: operating theory, wheel-speed sensors, ECU and hydraulic-unit circuits, warning-light behavior, self-diagnosis, stored malfunction codes, component tests, code deletion, and operation checks. Suzuki treats the wheel-speed sensors, ECU, and hydraulic unit as non-disassemblable precision assemblies; the manual covers testing, removal, and replacement rather than internal overhaul. The K6/SK6 publication has no dedicated K6 ABS repair chapter.

Electrical sections trace the regulated charging circuit, battery leakage, starter motor and relay, digital ignitor, CKP and throttle-position sensors, side-stand interlock, combination meter, and fuel-level circuit. System-specific troubleshooting tables support fault isolation before component repair begins.
