Haynes coverage limits: The Haynes manual excludes V70R, AWD and bi-fuel models, 2.8L/2.9L gasoline engines, 2.5L diesel engines, and the replacement model ranges introduced in March 2006 for the S80 and June 2007 for the V70. Separate files contain selected AWD and R-model material.

File and application limits: The Haynes PDF omits printed pages 2B•1–2B•2 at the beginning of the diesel engine chapter. The separate DTC reference includes later-model entries and does not establish matching mechanical repair coverage for those vehicles.

Finding information: Repair text and the update charts are searchable. Haynes navigation is limited to three numbered bookmarks; the 2004 wiring volume has extensive, repetitive bookmarks and partly unusable text encoding. The parts excerpt has no text search, and circuit labels in the separate 2006 wiring file are image-based. Small wiring labels require zooming.

Engine Inspection and Configuration Differences

The Haynes chapters separate in-car engine repairs from engine removal and overhaul. Gasoline coverage includes compression diagnosis, piston and ring inspection, crankshaft measurements, and camshaft-cover sealing; diesel sections distinguish the EDC15C11 and EDC16C31 common-rail systems.

Engine tune-up charts provide spark-plug gaps and idle-speed specifications. The update files also contain valve, piston-ring, crankshaft and connecting-rod tables, alongside fluid capacities and component-specific tightening data.

The engine repair data warns that tightening a fracture-split connecting-rod cap in the wrong orientation can ruin its mating surface. Camshaft setup procedures also identify the risk of valve damage from excessive shaft rotation.

Fuel-system sections include pressure-release precautions, and the diesel chapters address the hazards of high-pressure injection equipment.

Gearbox Diagnosis and Chassis-Specific Procedures

For the 2003 S60 2.4T with B5244T3 engine, the capacity chart lists approximately 9.3 US quarts for the cooling system. The chart explicitly treats capacities as approximate.

For the 2004 S80 2.9 with B6294S2 engine, the crankshaft table specifies a main-bearing journal diameter of 2.5589–2.5597 inches. This is the journal measurement, rather than the bearing oil-clearance specification.
