Mechanics and experienced DIY rebuilders get the dimensions, limits, test values, and repair procedures needed to work beyond routine maintenance. The base engine is identified as a 57.0 mm bore × 48.8 mm stroke, 124 cm³ four-stroke with 8.5:1 compression, a MIKUNI VM20SS carburetor, wet-sump lubrication, recoil starting, and Suzuki's Twin Dome Combustion Chamber. The transmission uses a wet multi-plate automatic centrifugal clutch with five forward constant-mesh ratios plus reverse.

Engine coverage goes well past tune-up work. The manual includes compression and oil-pressure testing, engine removal and remounting, cylinder-head and valve service, camshaft and rocker-arm inspection, piston/cylinder measurement, crankshaft and connecting-rod checks, crankcase separation, clutch repair, transmission and shifting-fork service, oil-pump work, and recoil-starter repair. Chassis sections cover wheel hubs and rims, steering, rear sprocket and drive chain, drum brake, and rear axle bearing/seal service. The repair notes are unusually specific. Suzuki warns that poor cam-chain control during cylinder or camshaft work can trap the chain between the crankcase and cam-chain drive sprocket. The crankshaft is not to be driven into the crankcase with a hammer because alignment accuracy can be affected. Transmission assembly also requires the correct fork position and direction—the manual identifies four different shift forks and notes that an incorrect arrangement can cause improper gear operation.

System Overviews and Component Diagrams

The publication is arranged in 12 groups: general information, periodic maintenance, engine service, fuel and lubrication, electrical, chassis, servicing information, an '83/'84 appendix, and separate E, F, G, and H model sections. The later sections are cumulative: for example, the F-model section tells the technician to use Sections 1–9 except where F-model differences are listed, while the H-model section refers back through Sections 1–11. Model-year changes are documented in enough detail to prevent mixing incompatible parts. The '83/'84 appendix gives an LT125D engine-number break: reverse-shift lever/arm positioning applies up to engine No. 145420, while revised reverse-drive parts begin from No. 145421. It also identifies the 24500-18830 reverse gear and cam kit and gives interchangeability data for early/late transmission and cylinder-head parts. For 1984, the E model received an 8.0 L fuel tank in place of the earlier 5.0 L tank, a reserve circuit, vacuum fuel pump, winter/summer starter limiter, throttle/speed limiter, and revised brake/wheel hardware. The G model changed the forward shift pattern from 1-up/4-down to all-up and revised the gearshift cam, reverse components, and clutch lock-up speed. The H model adds an ignition switch at the odometer/trip-meter box, relocates the engine stop switch and starter lever, and supplies its own wiring and routing information.
