Nissan Manual Features & Content Preview
- S14/SR20DET application data: Identifies the Nissan Model S14 Series 2WD coupe with SR20DET, including European, Australian, and other export-market configurations, right- and left-hand drive, and factory 5-speed manual/4-speed automatic model codes.
- Engine and turbo repair coverage: Covers compression testing, timing-chain service, cylinder-head and cylinder-block work, engine removal and installation, turbocharger disassembly and inspection, oil and coolant plumbing, wastegate operation, and boost-control diagnosis.
- ECCS and ECM diagnostics: Provides CONSULT self-diagnosis, Data Monitor and Active Test functions, trouble-code and symptom procedures, the ECM harness connector terminal layout, input/output reference tables, and individual sensor and actuator circuit checks.
- Manual transmission and final drive overhaul: Details FS5W71C removal, internal disassembly, shift-control and gear inspection, synchronizer and baulk-ring checks, reassembly, and gear-ratio data, plus R200V propeller-shaft and differential service, pinion-height setup, bearing preload, and tooth-contact adjustment.
- Suspension, steering, brakes, and ABS: Separates front and rear axle/suspension work and covers wheel bearings, alignment, hubs, knuckles, drive shafts, struts, the rear multi-link system, steering gear and pump service, brake bleeding, caliper and master-cylinder repair, and CONSULT/LED-based ABS diagnosis.
- System-specific electrical diagrams: Includes power-supply routing, battery/start/charge diagnosis, lighting circuits, electrical-unit locations, connector and harness layouts, and Super Multiple Junction terminal arrangements for both LHD and RHD configurations.
- HVAC, body, and SRS service: Documents HFC-134a refrigerant service and DKV-14C compressor/clutch work, manual and automatic climate-control diagnosis, body alignment and door/glass adjustment, and SRS self-diagnosis, component removal, and collision checks.
S14/SR20DET Application and Scope
This 816-page PDF contains a scan of a Nissan Model S14 Series factory service manual bearing a 1994 copyright, plus a separately added cover, contents page, and final engine-control architecture chart. The factory application table is specific to the turbocharged SR20DET coupe and distinguishes destination, steering side, transmission, and applied-model code. Maintenance coverage includes pre-delivery checks, market-specific schedules, and engine and chassis service procedures. For a 1995 Nissan 200SX or S14 Silvia, match the identification plate and drivetrain to that table rather than relying on the model year or name alone. Its overhaul procedures, CONSULT-era diagnostics, and special-tool requirements make this manual best suited to experienced technicians and properly equipped owners familiar with workshop safety and measurement practices.
The transmission scope has one important limit. The identification and maintenance sections recognize both the FS5W71C 5-speed manual and RE4R01A 4-speed automatic, but the dedicated automatic-transmission repair section is not included in this file. The transmission overhaul chapter covers the FS5W71C only. No separate S14 supplement is part of the PDF.
Engine, Turbo, and Driveline Repair Depth
Inside the engine chapter, overhaul detail extends to camshaft, valve and guide inspection; piston, crankshaft, bearing, and cylinder checks; oil-jet inspection; and sodium-filled exhaust-valve disposal. Turbo repair is tied into the lubrication, cooling, and ECCS chapters, so the mechanical unit, oil and water tubes, charge-air path, recirculation valve, boost sensor, wastegate actuator, and control solenoid can be followed as one system.
Driveline repair continues through clutch hydraulic adjustment and bleeding, gearbox teardown, R200V final-drive setup, and differential oil-cooler diagnosis. Nissan tool references include the ST0501S000 engine stand assembly, transmission pullers and drifts, the KV381039S0 drive-pinion height setting gauge, and the ST3127S000 preload gauge. The service-data sections supply component-specific torque tables, fluid capacities, wear limits, clearances, alignment data, adjustment specifications, and electrical test values without separating them from the procedures they support.
Schematics, Test Charts, and Electrical Fault Tracing
Named references include the ECCS System Diagram and Vacuum Hose Drawing, Power Supply Routing schematic, ABS Hydraulic Circuit and ABS wiring diagram, Differential Oil Cooler wiring diagram, SRS schematic and wiring diagram, and the separate manual and automatic A/C wiring diagrams. The EL section also maps the main, engine-room, engine-control, body, tail, room-lamp, door, and restraint-system harnesses. Starting and charging assemblies receive removal, disassembly, component checks, reassembly, and troubleshooting coverage rather than diagram-only treatment.
The EC chapter warns that allowing meter probes to touch during ECM signal testing can short the circuit and damage the ECM power transistor. The HVAC chapter states that mixing R-12 equipment, refrigerant, or lubricant with the HFC-134a system can cause compressor failure.
Electrical, SRS, pressurized-fuel, refrigerant, brake, and raised-vehicle work all require the manual's stated isolation and safety procedures. Nissan specifically reserves SRS maintenance for an authorized dealer and warns against using electrical test equipment on yellow SRS circuits.
