Model-Year and Serial-Validity Fitment
This set contains six Ducati Monster S4R spare parts catalog PDFs, one for each model year from 2003 through 2008. It is not a single undifferentiated catalog. Use the PDF for the motorcycle's exact model year before selecting a part number, then check the validity field attached to the individual component.
Ducati's legend distinguishes f.m. (Until V.I.N.), d.m. (From V.I.N.), f.m.m. (Up to engine number), and d.m.m. (From engine number). Fitment is controlled at part level rather than by one blanket 2003-2008 chassis range. The ordering notes call for the part code, description, quantity, and motorcycle serial number stamped on the steering head.
A concrete break appears in the 2005 Filters and Oil Pump plate. Complete oil pump 174.2.025.5A and pump drive gear 174.1.025.1A apply through engine no. 014662; pump 174.2.025.6A and drive gear 174.1.025.2A apply from engine no. 014663. Both components change at the same break, so model year alone is not enough for this repair.
Section Breakdown and Organization
Each model-year publication contains 42 to 46 vehicle-system and bodywork plates, plus four or five workshop-tool and diagnostic plates. Across the set, the contents pages list 263 model-year-specific vehicle plate entries and 26 tool/diagnostic plate entries. Every exploded view is paired with a table showing notes, callout position, part code, description, validity, and required quantity.
Representative drawing groups include Gearbox, Filters and Oil Pump, Cylinder Head: Timing System, Water Pump-Alternator-Side Crankcase Cover, Front Brake, and Electrical System. Further plates cover the clutch, crankcase halves, connecting rods, cylinders and pistons, intake and fuel systems, radiator and cooling, exhaust, frame, fork, rear suspension, swingarm and chain, wheels, controls, lighting, battery support, seat, and fairing.
The later editions are not simple page-number updates. The 2007 and 2008 catalogs split several assemblies into additional plates, including clutch-side crankcase cover 005/005a, crankcase halves 010/010a, water-pump/alternator-side cover 011/011a, and cylinder-head covers 014/014a. Those year-specific subdivisions matter when two components look similar in an exploded view but carry different callouts or part numbers.
Key Catalog Features
- Five-language parts tables: Italian, English, French, German, and Spanish descriptions appear alongside the factory part codes.
- Model-year diagnostic references: The 2003-2005 catalogs list the Mathesis system. The 2006-2008 editions list DDS (Ducati Diagnosis System), P/N 97900.0215, with a manifold vacuum-meter kit, belt-tensioning kit 97900.0002, cables, adapters, sensors, and an oil-pressure fitting.
- Named workshop tools: Examples include degree-wheel holder 88713.0123, timing-belt control gauge 88765.0999, crankshaft TDC holding tool 88713.2011, water-pump front-seal assembly tool 88713.0869, and rear-wheel balancing tool 88713.1073.
- Year-specific paint codes: References include Anniversary Ducati Red PPG 473.101/F_473.101, Ducati Black PPG 248.514, Ducati Yellow PPG 473.201, clear coat PPG 228.880, Titanium PAL 928D184, and PAL clear 923I0652.
- Code-number index: Each catalog ends with a numerical part-number cross-reference that points to the applicable drawing and callout position. It is not a separate alphabetical component index.
The tool and diagnostic plates support parts sourcing and repair planning; they do not provide operating sequences, test workflows, or calibration procedures.

Finding What You Need Fast
Start with the correct model-year PDF, locate the assembly in the contents page, and use the table's validity and quantity columns before following the part code into the numerical index. Ducati states that the drawings are indicative, so the part table and serial or engine-number note control identification; the exploded view should not be treated as a repair sequence.
These files are parts catalogs, not workshop repair manuals. The Electrical System group is an exploded parts fiche rather than a wiring schematic, and brake coverage consists of front- and rear-brake assemblies without a separate ABS chapter. Vehicle dimensions and weights, torque specifications, fluid capacities, service intervals, fault-code workflows, and step-by-step repair procedures are outside this catalog scope.
Several engine and gearbox plates place multiple shim thicknesses under the same callout. Ordering only by illustration position can alter shaft end play or valve clearances and damage bearings, gears, or valvetrain parts. The 2005 oil-pump break should be treated as a pump-and-drive-gear change; mixing pre- and post-break components can compromise the lubrication drive. Dedicated drivers are listed for water-pump seals, valve seals, and roller cages because an improvised drift can deform a sealing lip or cage before the repair is complete.
For brake, fuel, cooling, engine, or electrical repair work, support the motorcycle securely and isolate the affected system before disassembly. Use the matching workshop manual for repair sequences, torque values, system testing, and safety procedures.
