The optional SpectroProofer is treated as a repairable subsystem, not as a passing accessory note. Separate tables address nozzle clogging, banding, smearing, color inconsistency, paper jams and skew, incorrect cut position, network recognition, abnormal noise, and failed color measurement.
These diagnostic paths do more than name a suspected part. They connect the fault to connector locations, sensor or encoder checks, motor measurement, belt or feed adjustment, NVRAM data, and the related removal page. That helps determine whether a repair points to a CR Encoder, PF Scale, Main Board, SUB board, IS Unit, Ink Selector, cutter mechanism, or complete printer mechanism before parts are ordered.
Chapter 3 provides parts diagrams and removal/reassembly procedures for the housing, Main, Network, Power Supply, SUB-series, and AID boards; CR Unit and belt; PF motor and scale; suction fan; paper sensors; ASF rollers; ATC and roll-feed motors; cutter drive; Printhead; IS Unit; wiper and cap; cartridge holders; ink tubes; Head FFC; decompression pump; and SpectroProofer components. The frame, platen, and PF shaft are a stated service limit: Epson prohibits their disassembly because those parts are factory-aligned to fine tolerances.
Adjustments, Tools, and Reference Diagrams
Repair-dependent adjustment tables identify what must be checked after each component is removed or replaced. Procedures include FFC position verification, CR speed initialization, Active Damper adjustment, nozzle cleaning, CR/PF head-slant alignment, ink eject and initial charge, ILS/CSIC checks, tube cleaning, leak inspection, Rear AD adjustment, PW and top/bottom/side detection, cut-position correction, suction calibration, USB/network communication checks, Motor Measurement Adjustment, Sensor Check, and Encoder Check. NVRAM read/write functions cover both the printer and the SpectroProofer EEPROM, while the viewer documents life-part counters, utilization history, and stored error history.
The manual names the required Epson adjustment tooling and part numbers, including Sonic Tension Meter U-507 P/N 1294120, paper-thickness tools 1424364 and 1282355, PG height jigs 1543007, 1507506, and 1507277, Standard Sheet 1476228, and Cleaning Cartridge 1537913.
