When you have a 2003 Arctic Cat utility ATV on the lift, exact configuration matters. The manual separates specifications for the 250, 300, 400 automatic, 400 manual, 500 automatic, 500 manual, and 500 TBX instead of treating the range as one generic machine. The 400 coverage also distinguishes ACT and FIS versions where suspension layout, rear-drive capacity, and wiring differ. The factory data is configuration-specific. The 250 intake valve clearance is 0.03–0.08 mm (0.001–0.003 in.); the 400/500 intake range is 0.05–0.10 mm. Compression test specifications are 157.5–192.5 psi for the 250/300 and 63–77 psi for the 400/500. The 500 cooling-system capacity is 2.9 L (3.0 U.S. qt), and 500 engine-oil capacity changes with transmission: 3.4 L for the manual model versus 2.5 L for the automatic. On 400 models, rear-drive capacity is 275 ml for ACT and 250 ml for FIS. The 500 magneto output is 325W at 5000 RPM.
Oil-pressure diagnosis is also split by powertrain: 250/300, 400 manual, 400 automatic, 500 manual, and 500 automatic each have their own pressure range at 3000 RPM and 60°C (140°F). The service manual provides clutch engagement/lock-up data, gear ratios, shift-fork and groove limits, piston/cylinder measurements, camshaft runout and lobe limits, cooling-switch temperatures, brake-pad wear limits, and torque tables for drivetrain, chassis, suspension, brake, electrical, and engine fasteners.

During transmission repair, the driveshaft bushing oil-feed ports must align with the shaft passages; incorrect alignment can cause serious engine damage. Cam timing assembly also depends on the sprocket tab washer retaining the alignment pin—if that pin comes out, severe engine damage can result. One clear scope limit is that the hydraulic brake caliper and hand-brake master cylinder are treated as non-serviceable components and are replaced as assemblies.
