The cam-timing instructions warn that loss of the sprocket alignment pin through incorrect tab-washer installation can cause severe engine damage.

Carburetion and Lubrication

Carburetor Schematics accompany service information for the Keihin CVK32 and CVK36, with cleaning, inspection, throttle-cable, and idle-adjustment procedures. Gas-tank, fuel-valve, and vent-hose service are also covered.

Oil Flow Charts support lubrication-system diagnosis. Oil-pressure testing uses Oil Pressure Gauge p/n 0444-039 and separate specifications for the 250/300, 400 manual, 400 automatic, 500 manual, and 500 automatic at 3000 RPM and an oil temperature of 60°C (140°F).

Cold-engine intake valve clearance is 0.03–0.08 mm (0.001–0.003 in.) for the 250, compared with 0.05–0.10 mm for the 400/500. These values accompany the valve/tappet inspection and adjustment procedures.

Compression-test specifications are 157.5–192.5 psi for the 250/300 and 63–77 psi for the 400/500, with a warm engine, a fully charged battery, and the throttle fully open.

The 500 electrical specifications list approximate magneto output of 325W at 5000 RPM.
