Engine and Drivetrain Repair Depth

XR-specific differences: Dedicated sections address the precision-cooling oil circuit, oil cooler, cylinder-head oil lines and XR oil pump. The cylinder section specifies replacement of worn XR 1200X pistons or cylinders rather than an oversize-piston repair.

Transmission service requires engine removal and crankcase separation. The internal procedures cover the mainshaft, countershaft, shifter forks, shift drum and main-drive gear bearings. For the XR 1200X, the alternator rotor and engine sprocket are replaced as an assembly when damaged.

For the covered XL and XR models, the fuel-pressure test table lists steady operating pressure of 55–62 psi (380–425 kPa) with the engine running, alongside separate diagnostic paths for readings below or above that range.
