The 2009 supplement is specifically intended to be used with that manual when servicing its listed 2009 watercraft, referring the technician back to the 2008 procedures where a system is unchanged. The separate 2009 Technical Update Book adds model-year changes and troubleshooting information for PWC plus running changes for sport-boat families including the 150 Speedster, 180 Challenger, 200 Speedster, 205 Utopia, and 230 Challenger/230 Wake. Its sport-boat material is technical-update coverage, not a replacement for a full sport-boat shop manual.

The engine sections distinguish 1503 naturally aspirated 130- and 155-HP configurations from 215- and 255-HP supercharged/intercooled builds. Naturally aspirated versions use 10.6:1 compression; the 215/255-HP boosted versions use 8.4:1. The 2009 update adds the 255-HP HO ETC engine used in GTX Limited iS and RXT iS models, identifying its electronically controlled throttle body, Bosch ECM, upgraded fuel rail, and dedicated injectors. It also notes four non-interchangeable 1503 injector groups: 130/155, 185/215, 255, and 255 ETC.

Factory Repair and Diagnostic Depth

Repair procedures extend well past routine maintenance: engine removal and installation, engine-to-jet-pump alignment, internal engine work, supercharger inspection and clutch repair, intercooler testing, exhaust and cooling-system service, fuel-tank and high-pressure fuel leak tests, fuel-pump pressure diagnosis, jet-pump and impeller repair, drive-shaft and carbon-ring service, steering alignment, O.P.A.S., reverse/VTS work, and recovery procedures for submerged or water-flooded engines.

Supercharger clutch slipping moment can be checked on the engine or on the bench. Specifications are 10–17 N·m (89–150 lbf·in) for a new supercharger and 8–11 N·m (71–97 lbf·in) after break-in. The intercooler test calls for 69 kPa (10 PSI) for at least 10 minutes. Fuel diagnosis is application-specific: the factory flow chart distinguishes 303 kPa (44 PSI) and 399 kPa (58 PSI) reference points rather than treating them as one broad operating range.

B.U.D.S. coverage includes ECM communication, monitoring faults, fault-code interpretation, reset functions, sensor/actuator diagnosis, and ECM replacement data. EFI sections address TPS, IACV, CPS, CAPS, MATS, CTS, MAPS, EGTS, OPS, injectors, fuel-pump circuits, and harness checks. Electrical chapters cover Deutsch, Packard, and 47-pin Kostal ECM connectors together with D.E.S.S., ignition, charging, starting, gauges, fuses, and wiring.

Factory tooling is identified where the repair depends on it. The 2009 jet-pump section separates impeller remover/installers P/N 529 035 820 for 130/155-HP applications and P/N 529 035 956 for 215/255-HP applications, with pressure cap P/N 529 036 172 and vacuum/pressure pump P/N 529 021 800 specified for leak testing.

Several repair cautions are model-specific. Engine rubber-mount screws are limited to 25 N·m (18 lbf·ft) because excess torque can damage the aluminum insert threads in the bilge. A removed hull-to-jet-pump shim changes engine alignment, and the manual warns that incorrect alignment can cause severe component damage. During storage preparation, trapped water in the intercooler on supercharged models or in the exhaust manifold can severely damage those components; 255-HP intercoolers also require attention to condensation on the air side.

Engine and Maintenance Specifications

Maintenance tables organize work at the first 10 hours and then at 25-hour/3-month, 50-hour/6-month, 100-hour/1-year, and 200-hour/2-year intervals, with greater frequency for rental or intensive use. The schedules connect routine service with supercharger clutch checks, fuel-system leak testing, EMS fault codes, D.E.S.S., steering, O.P.A.S., jet pump, and drive-system inspection.

The 2009 jet-pump update is especially relevant when selecting repair parts. BRP introduced an aluminum die-cast pump with a new impeller shaft, impeller, and cone. The new impeller and shaft must remain a matched execution and cannot be mixed with the older versions; the new cone does not fit previous pumps. Wear-ring identification is blue for 130 HP, white for 215 HP, and black for 255 HP. After jet-pump repair, the supplement specifies a leak test of maximum 70 kPa (10 PSI), held for at least 5 minutes.
