Exact Model and Engine Match
The engine mapping is explicit: 717 for GTI and GTI LE; 787 RFI for GTI RFI, GTI RFI LE/GTI LE RFI, and 3D RFI; 947 DI for XP DI; and 1503 4-TEC for the naturally aspirated and supercharged GTX models and the supercharged RXP. Factory model-number coverage is 6133–6136 for GTI/GTI LE, 6137–6140 for GTI RFI/GTI RFI LE, 6151–6152 for XP DI, 6141–6144 and 6147–6150 for GTX 4-TEC variants, 5599, 6115, 6162, and 6163 for RXP, and 6157–6158 for 3D RFI.
The 97-page 3D publication is a model-specific supplement rather than a duplicate of the main manual. It covers the 3D RFI and 3D RFI International differences—including Off-Throttle Assisted Steering, the Vehicle Control Module, steering-pole and alignment work, jet-pump/drive/VTS details, charging and starting circuits, DESS, and 3D hull components—while directing common 787 RFI procedures back to the included main shop manual.
Rotax Repair and Diagnostic Scope
The 2-stroke chapters go well past routine maintenance. They document crankcase leak isolation, engine removal, top-end measurement, crankshaft and counterbalance inspection, rotary-valve service, exhaust removal and tuned-pipe repair, plus model-specific reassembly and adjustment data. Separate RFI and DI chapters keep the systems distinct: RFI coverage follows the fuel pump, regulator, injectors, ECU/MPEM, RAVE solenoid, and sensor network, while the DI section adds the air compressor, air/fuel rail, direct injector, quick fuel-pressure checks, compressor-pressure testing, ignition synchronization, and DI fault-code logic.
For 4-TEC models, the manual moves from intake, exhaust, and intercooler checks into internal engine service. Supercharged models receive dedicated procedures for slipping-moment inspection, clutch components, shaft removal, bearing installation, and final verification. The lubrication section covers the dry-sump pumps, oil-pressure diagnosis, filter, cooler, and separator; the cylinder-head and block sections cover the camshaft, timing chain, valves, crankshaft, balancer shaft, pistons, and connecting rods.
Factory diagnostics are tied to the correct equipment. The manual identifies the VCK P/N 529 035 981, the engine leak tester kit P/N 295 500 352, and the supplementary RFI/DI leak-test kit P/N 295 500 780, along with model-specific pullers, alignment tools, pressure gauges, crimping tools, and 4-TEC supercharger fixtures.
Diagrams, Pinouts, and Factory Data
Useful visual references include the engine leakage diagnostic flow chart, the complete 4-TEC electrical-system overview, the DI AMP connector pinout, the 4-TEC engine-connector pinout, the 3D VCM 32-pin and 7-pin connector views, and separate wiring diagrams for the covered GTI, XP DI, GTX/RXP, and 3D configurations. Exploded and sectional assembly views support engine, supercharger, jet-pump, steering, suspension, and hull/body repair without forcing the technician to work from a generic schematic.
Technical-data chapters are organized by model family. They supply the related torque specifications, fuel and oil requirements, cooling-system data, pressure-test values, capacities, wear limits, clearances, electrical checks, impeller specifications, and adjustment data needed to finish a repair to the correct configuration.
The 947 DI bottom-end instructions warn that excess crankcase sealant can block the air-compressor lubrication nipple and cause serious compressor damage. On the 1503 engine, incorrect crankshaft/camshaft indexing during timing-chain work can damage internal components. Supercharger bearing cage orientation and press-load location also matter; hammering the shaft assembly or loading through the bearing balls shortens bearing life.
Follow the manual’s safety notices before opening pressurized fuel or air circuits, energizing the starting system, or working around the jet pump and drive shaft.
