Drivetrain Build Changes
The factory text distinguishes standard and heavy-duty gearboxes rather than treating their internal parts as interchangeable. It records the heavy-duty gearbox introduction for France-built MF 6170 tractors at serial F008020 and MF 6180 tractors at F008029, with later introduction in other countries. Other production changes include reverse-shuttle accumulators from D205006 on Dynashift and D208009 on Speedshift machines, a revised selector cover from E032053, and brake-disc lubrication changes from E240024.
Clutch and transmission chapters go beyond removal notes. They cover bearing and seal replacement, clutch-pack teardown, planetary-carrier assembly, shaft shimming, synchronizer and selector adjustment, backlash or preload setup, hydraulic control checks, and final road testing. Named factory tools include the 3376883M1 lifting sling, 3376887M1 centering tool, 3376920M1 planetary-carrier compression tool, 3378054M1 reverse-selector adjustment template, and 3378010M1 mainshaft-nut socket.
Hydraulic and Electronic Diagnosis
For open-center machines, the manual traces the high- and low-flow circuits supplied by the two-stage gear pump. Six-cylinder tractors could instead be equipped with the optional closed-center, load-sensing system using booster and variable-displacement pumps. The related test sections cover pump output, relief and priority functions, internal leakage, steering, auxiliary valves, trailer braking, clutch modulation, Dynashift control pressure, lubrication, and the front-PTO housing constant-level circuit. MF3001 pressure gauges, MF3002 hoses and unions, and MF3003/MF3004 flowmeter equipment are identified for these checks.
Electronic repair coverage includes ELC self-diagnosis and position-sensor adjustment, Autotronic 2 checks with and without the factory tester, transmission-control parameters and reprogramming, and Datatronic 2 setup. The English-language tester-programmers are identified as 3376943M1 and 3376944M1 for the applicable speed configurations.
Drawings, Specifications, and Scope
Useful illustrations include the Speedshift exploded view, standard and heavy-duty output-shaft exploded views, rear-axle differential section views, open- and closed-center hydraulic circuit diagrams, Autotronic 2 hydro-electrical reverse-shuttle diagrams, and the R134a air-conditioning schematic and wiring diagram. Specification material covers component torque tables, metric and inch fastener charts, fluid capacities, wear limits, clutch and gearbox shimming, bearing preload, differential backlash, hydraulic pressure and flow tests, axle-loading data, and electrical test values.
The engine chapter covers engine identification and specifications, the viscous fan, flywheel shock absorber, flywheel and ring gear, and clutch spacers; it is not a full internal Perkins engine-overhaul section. Although the contents page numbers 14 sections, Sections 13 and 14 contain divider pages rather than accessory or service-tool chapters. The separately numbered Repair Time Schedule 3378043M1 is referenced but not included. The 4WD-clutch removal page in Section 8A01.5 is in French, and the final PDF page is a reseller notice rather than factory service material.
The manual flags two easy-to-miss repair hazards: even slight damage to the Speedshift carrier seal rings can cause leakage and operating-pressure loss, while reversing hydraulic flow through the test equipment can damage the flowmeter. Tractor splitting, brake and PTO work, hydraulic testing, and air-conditioning service require secure support, pressure isolation, and the lifting or test equipment specified for the job.
