Xerox Phaser 6280 Service Manual, 2008 (P/N 701P48435)

Xerox’s factory service manual covers the Phaser 6280N and 6280DN color laser printers. This is the November 2008 first printing, P/N 701P48435. The duplex unit is optional on the 6280N and standard on the 6280DN. The manual also covers the optional 550-sheet feeder, hard disk drive, and memory upgrades.

Fault Codes, Service Mode, and Test Prints

The fault tables pair yes/no checks with applicable field-replaceable units and wiring references. Service Mode tests the main, sub, Tray 2, duplex, and optional-feeder motors, as well as clutches, solenoids, erase lamps, toner motors, and the ADC solenoid and LED. Controller diagnostics cover RAM and the network interface.

The power-on self-test and network checks provide diagnostic paths when the printer displays no fault code. No Image IOT helps distinguish a print-engine problem from a connection problem. Grid 2 ESS, 20% color patches, Gradation ESS, Toner Pallet Check, and Contamination Check provide further ways to evaluate output. Appendix A covers boot-controller, controller, and MCU firmware updates and lists additional Chain Link codes.

Drive Assemblies, Board Swaps, and Parts Lookup

The theory chapter explains development, drum-to-paper transfer, charge neutralization, and cleaning. Its Main Drive Assembly (Full Color Mode) drawing identifies moving components, while the disassembly chapter covers the Main, PH, and K drive assemblies individually.

The MCU and Image Processor board replacement notes cover retaining the original NVRAM, and the Image Processor board also requires transfer of any installed DIMM. The manual explains NVM save and load between the engine and controller and flags ROM orientation and pressure on the board during removal.

Map 4 locates the LVPS and MCU board connectors. Separate diagrams trace DC power, high voltage, the fuser, laser, controller, developer, and xerographic circuits. Xerox uses the model and serial number together for parts selection because components can change during production.

Mounting and Print-Quality Reference

The mounting specifications link an uneven or out-of-level surface to horizontal color misregistration and toner smearing, so an installation problem can resemble a print-engine fault. The image specifications cover skew, perpendicularity, parallelism, linearity, magnification, and lead- and side-edge registration.

Other reference tables cover power consumption, current capacity, inrush, leakage current, environmental and acoustic limits, clearances, and media and tray limits. Service Mode also documents how to read component life counters.

Selected Defect Intervals and Registration Settings

For repeating horizontal lines or spots on a test print, the diagnostic chart lists a 75.4 mm repeat interval for the print-cartridge drum and 82.7 mm for the fuser roll. It links each interval to the corresponding replacement assembly.

For black-image registration, the Fast Scan range is −30 to +30 counts, at 0.17 mm per count. The tray settings apply to side one and the duplex setting applies to side two.
