It includes camshaft and valve inspection, cylinder and piston measurement, ring and bearing limits, crankcase work, crankshaft and balancer-shaft end-float setup, lubrication troubleshooting, oil-pump inspection, and transmission function checks after assembly. Service Notes and Scope Limits

Two assembly cautions are especially relevant to DS 650 repair work. The oblong front ball joint requires the correct tab lock and orientation; incorrect installation can restrict stud travel and lead to stud damage or failure. The clutch section warns that pulling the release lever backward while the engine is hot can dislodge the pressure-plate bearing.

The engine and transmission share mineral-based SAE 10W-40 four-stroke oil. Synthetic or synthetic-blend oil is excluded because it affects clutch calibration. Coverage is specific to the factory-built 2001 model 7449; post-production dealer modifications are outside the manual, and later Service or Warranty Bulletins may update the published procedures. Before lifting the ATV or beginning heavy disassembly, place it on a level surface and support the frame securely on jack stands; engine removal also calls for a lifting tool and hoist.
