Massey-Ferguson Manual Features & Content Preview
- Exact machine coverage: Covers Massey Ferguson 5425, 5435, 5445, 5455, 5460, 5465, and 5470 tractors, plus 5460 SA, 5470 SA, and 5475 SA Orchard variants. The standard 5475 is not listed. This is a 2,111-page PDF of AGCO workshop service manual no. 3378545M5, dated October 2007.
- Tractor splitting and frame work: Details separation between the front frame and four- or six-cylinder Perkins engines, engine-to-GTA2020 separation, and GBA20/GPA20 splits with the cab retained on either the center housing or gearbox. The shimmed four-cylinder front-frame configuration has its own measuring, installation, and final-check procedure.
- Engine and clutch repair: Covers Perkins 1104 and 1106 injection-pump timing, removal and installation, fuel-system bleeding, water-pump service, and related front-cover components. GBA20 dry-clutch material addresses the diaphragm mechanism, friction disc, clutch thrust bearing, hydraulic slave assembly, piston seals, guide rings, and bleeding.
- GBA20 and GBA25 transmission repair: Breaks down the GBA20 mechanical reverse shuttle and Power Shuttle units through the input section, shuttle, Speedshift, selectors, output shaft, layshaft, and intermediate shaft. GBA25 chapters address the PowerShuttle, Powershift module, robotic mechanical gearbox, shaft shimming, selector adjustment, and speed-sensor service.
- Axle, PTO, hydraulic, and brake systems: Covers GPA20 normal- and heavy-duty trumpet housings, brake piston, hand brake, differential, hitch and linkage, auto-hitch, and rear hubs; PTO shafts, drive gears, brake, GSPTO, and clutch; DANA, CARRARO, 2WD, and 4WD front-axle configurations; and factory testing of open-center and Load Sensing hydraulics, braking, linkage, auxiliary valves, and Power Shuttle control.
- Electrical diagnostics and shop data: Supplies diagrams for cab, engine, transmission, lighting, and controller power feeds. The electronics chapters cover Wintest-based Perkins electronic-injection programming, tests, error codes, and wiring; Autotronic 5 Power Shuttle and linkage programming, tests, error codes, calibration, and wiring; and Dyna-4 programming, parameter setting, error-code analysis, calibration, and electrical diagrams. Model specifications, speed tables, dimensions, capacities, torque data, shimming values, and service-tool references are included.
Manual Organization and Chapter Walkthrough
This is a factory workshop publication written for repair operations, not an operator's handbook. The opening specification chapter identifies engine, transmission, rear axle, PTO, front axle, hydraulic, electronic, and cab combinations by model. That distinction matters on the 5400 line because tractors may use GBA20 Speedshift or GBA25 Dyna-4 architecture, mechanical or Power Shuttle clutching, different axle families, and more than one hydraulic layout.
The splitting chapter separates procedures by engine layout, transmission interface, and cab support arrangement rather than giving one generic sequence. It documents access to the vibration damper, flywheel, clutch components, transmission input parts, creeper or super-creeper drive, PTO clutch, hand-brake mechanism, rear differential ring gear and pinion, and center housing.
Engine coverage is deliberately tractor-side. The Perkins chapters handle injection timing, pump removal and refitting, fuel bleeding, front-cover work, and water-pump service, with separate methods for Bosch VE10, Delphi DP210, and Bosch VP30 pumps. SISU applications receive model-specific specifications. This publication does not contain a full internal engine overhaul chapter, so it does not replace the separate engine manufacturer's overhaul literature.
Technical Reference and Specification Highlights
Reference tables are arranged by build configuration. They distinguish Speedshift and Dyna-4 road speeds, attachment points and track-width layouts, and capacities for GBA20 and GBA25 tractors. Model-specific axle data separates the DANA AG 85 used on the 5425 from DANA AG 105, CARRARO 20.19 ACP, and DANA AG 130 applications elsewhere in the range. Repair sections add component-specific torque tables, backlash and preload checks, clutch and shaft shimming data, hydraulic test specifications, electrical pin information, controller parameters, error-code tables, and final operational checks.
Useful visual references include the Mechanical Reverse Shuttle and Speedshift hydraulic diagram, Power Shuttle and Speedshift hydraulic diagram, Load Sensing circuit diagrams, Autotronic 5 wiring and connector views, DANA and CARRARO axle exploded views, and the air-conditioning schematic. Representative tools are identified by number, including the 3376803M1 input-shaft seal drift, 4224730M1 and 4224757M1 four-cylinder timing pins, and the 4224787M1, PD245, and PD239 tools used on the six-cylinder injection system.
The manual also flags repair traps that matter during assembly. Never force the engine and transmission together when the damper or clutch splines resist; that risks damage to the input shaft, friction disc, or vibration damper. During front-frame shimming, changing support-stand height or reinstalling the shims incorrectly can load the engine lower housing and frame mating faces.
For splitting work, axle oscillation must be blocked and the separated assemblies secured with correctly positioned stands and slings before mounting fasteners are released. Air-conditioning repair requires proper R134a recovery, evacuation, leak-test, and filling equipment.
