Rotating blades and spring-loaded drive components require the precautions in the complete manual. The specifications in this overview are a reference, not a standalone repair procedure.

Valve Clearance and Stroke: A Specification Preview

For the Briggs & Stratton 311777, valve clearance is 0.08–0.13 mm at the intake and 0.13–0.18 mm at the exhaust, checked cold with the piston 6.35 mm (0.25 in.) past compression TDC. The Kohler engine uses hydraulic lifters and requires no valve adjustment.

The Briggs & Stratton 407777 general-specification table lists a piston stroke of 73.4 mm (2.89 in.).
