Transom Shield and Gimbal Service

Separate SX-M and SX-MHP chapters cover gimbal-housing inspection, gimbal-ring supports, transom and exhaust seals, and hydraulic lines.

Torque tables include SX-M steering-arm studs, center fasteners, trim-line fittings, and transom-bracket mounting. The SX-M transom shield Service Chart links torque and sealant references to the exploded assembly.

The water-hose instructions identify an O-ring placement error that blocks winter drainage and can cause freeze damage.

Upper Gear Housing and Shift Mechanism

Separate SX Lower Gearcase and DP-S Lower Gearcase Service Charts show the single- and dual-propeller assemblies. The procedures include gear-ratio-specific rolling-torque specifications and, for DP-S units, inner and outer propeller shaft service and runout checks.

The DP-S tool list distinguishes Level 1 Kit P/N 3855955 for resealing and inspection from Level 2 Kit P/N 3856041-3 for shimming after bearing or gear-set replacement. Level 2 is used together with Level 1.

Trim/Tilt Diagnosis and Repair

The pump-isolation tests help distinguish pump/manifold leakage from leaking trim cylinders before deciding which assembly needs repair. Running-pressure, stall-pressure, and leak-down checks are supported by the Hydraulic Flow Diagram and pressure specifications.

Cylinder work covers piston-rod removal, seal and scraper replacement, and reassembly. Pump service is limited to removal and replacement of the pump assembly; internal pump rebuilding is outside the prescribed service procedure.

Electrical coverage includes trim-sender resistance checks, connection details, and motor-current specifications. Electrical wiring diagrams are not included.

Maintenance, Propellers, and Coverage Limits

Chapters cover sterndrive lubrication, off-season storage preparations, and periodic maintenance schedules. Synthetic gearcase lubricant requirements and capacity tables distinguish SX and DP-S units, with service specifications in U.S. and metric units.

Propeller information separates SX right- and left-hand rotation from DP-S matched sets, including D-series aluminum and F-series stainless steel propellers.

Engine repair and water-pump overhaul require separate engine documentation. The referenced Engine Service Manual and Engine and Sterndrive Installation Manual are not included.
