Electrical Coverage and Serial Breaks

Machine, engine and major-unit identification, including VIN decoding, supports selection of the applicable service information. Electrical diagrams distinguish machines at 755182/755183, the 410B change at 755490/755491, and 407B–409B configurations from 757100.

Mainframe, cab and front-chassis harness information covers the later 407B–409B machines; mainframe and cab harnesses for 410B/411B start at 757600. Wire-number conventions and connector tables help match the circuit to the machine before tracing neutral-start, forward/reverse or servo-cutoff faults.

Hydraulic Configurations and Repair Limits

Separate circuits cover manual and servo-controlled 408B/409B machines through 757099, 407B–409B machines from 757100, and 410B/411B machines on either side of 757599/757600.

The diagrams identify steering-priority and brake-pressure-defeat circuits, forward/reverse and range valves, quickhitch and auxiliary services. Optional hose-burst protection, creep-speed equipment and Smooth Ride System hydraulics receive their own circuit detail.

Gear-pump procedures address inspection and resealing. Internal overhaul of the hydrostatic transmission pump and drive motor is outside this manual’s repair coverage. Their sections cover removal, replacement and setup, with restrictions on further dismantling. Fault charts distinguish sluggish response, one-direction operation, overheating and loss of drive.

Axle, Brake and Steering Repair

Axle procedures cover pinion-depth calculation, bearing preload, backlash and tooth-contact checks, plus pinion-seal replacement with the front axle installed. Separate instructions address 407B–409B hubs, the 410B planetary hub and the 411B hub/brake assembly. Transfer-gearbox setup and towing preparation for two transmission-pump types are also included.

The drive-head instructions identify matched crownwheel/pinion sets and differential case halves; incorrect gear contact or retaining an over-collapsed spacer can lead to premature gear or bearing damage. Steering-unit instructions preserve spool/sleeve timing marks and preset shock-valve settings to avoid incorrect timing or pressure adjustment.

The 411B brake material adds wet-brake assembly information, accumulator pressure tests and steering/accumulator charge-valve service.

Body Service, Maintenance and Tooling

Articulated-joint work includes separating the chassis halves, inspecting the pivots, replacing bushings and calculating shims. Loader-pivot seal fitting is covered alongside the cab and quickhitch procedures.

Maintenance tables distinguish North American lubricant specifications and the 407B–409B versus 410B/411B groups. They identify the hydraulic-fluid change at 757366/757367 and filter, air-cleaner and cooling-system changes at 757399/757400.

BSP port, hose-end and flange torque tables accompany high-tensile fastener data. Hydraulic pressure/flow checks, axle and gearbox adjustments, electrical test values, and brake/steering specifications support the component procedures.

Tool references include pressure-test kit 892/00253, flow-monitoring unit 892/00268, steering seal tool 892/00180, annulus-removal tool 892/00833, torque multiplier 992/04000, and quickhitch peg spanner 992/07000.

Illustrations include the Machines to Serial No. 755182 electrical circuit and later Mainframe Harness drawings. The early 408B/409B Servo hydraulic circuit, Smooth Ride System Electrical Schematic, Drive Head – Front Axle exploded view, and articulated-joint inspection and shim views support the corresponding service procedures.

Engine Scope and Workshop Safety

Section K supplies Perkins identification and technical data for 1004-4LR2, 1004-4HR, 1004-4, TN440/1004-4 TLR2, and later AS/AQ builds. Full internal engine overhaul is not included. Further engine work is referred to publications 9806/0100 and 9806/2140, neither supplied in this set.

Observe the manual’s precautions for the articulation lock, loader-arm safety strut and stored hydraulic/accumulator pressure. The articulated chassis and raised arms present crushing hazards; pressurized fluid presents an injection hazard.

Text search and navigation: All eleven files contain searchable text, but some diagram and harness-table lettering is not searchable. Each PDF has two generic bookmarks, rather than a detailed chapter outline. Printed page labels in sections F and G do not consistently match their contents listings.

Drawing detail: Small wire, pin and connector labels require zooming. Cropping affects electrical circuits, harness drawings and hydraulic schematics, including C-30, C-58, C-61, E-10 and the SRS electrical schematic at E-106. Enlarging these pages does not reveal the missing edge content.
