Hydraulic Diagnosis and Component Repair

The hydraulic section explains the neutral circuit and the track, slew, dipper, swing, undercarriage-extension, auxiliary, dozer, bucket, and boom functions. It also covers load-hold check valves, main relief valves, auxiliary relief valves, pump operation, and track-motor operation. The fault chart separates whole-system problems from track-only and slew-only faults, while cycle-time and track-speed tests provide performance checks before parts are removed.

Control-valve repair is broken down by service section, with component keys, inspection points, assembly notes, and torque data for each spool group. Pressure-test pages identify the required 892/00279 pressure gauge, 892/00223 hand pump, and 331/31069 test block. The pump chapter has a clear limit: only its seals are serviceable; wear or damage elsewhere calls for pump replacement rather than an internal rebuild.

Separate procedures cover greasing, battery and jump-start service, engine oil and cooling work, fuel-filter service and bleeding, hydraulic pressure release, hydraulic oil and filter changes, track adjustment, and track-gearbox oil service.

The reference pages include torque data for zinc and Dacromet fasteners, UNF and metric hardware grades, rivet nuts, internal-hex screws, BSP and SAE hydraulic connections, bonded-washer adapters, and Torque Stop hoses. Separate Engine Manuals and Assembly Cautions

Section K covers KD 103-10 I.D.I., 403C-11, and 403C-07 engine data by machine-number group, but it is not a complete engine-overhaul chapter. It directs detailed KD 103-10 repair to Engine Service Manual 9806/2100 and 403C-11 repair to Engine Service Manual 9806/2190; those separate publications are not included in this set.

Two assembly details are easy to miss. The track-gearbox cover must remain square to the gear axis during installation or the O-ring can be damaged. On Micro Plus track rollers, metallic face seals must stay as matched pairs, and touching the contact surface can start corrosion.

The safety material repeatedly requires trapped hydraulic pressure to be released, electrical starting to be isolated when appropriate, and raised machine components to be mechanically supported. Upper-structure, boom, track, recoil-spring, and pressure-testing work should be performed only by personnel with the training and equipment specified by JCB.
