Engine, Fuel, and Electrical Scope

The full engine repair volumes cover the GM 4.3-liter V-6, Perkins Series 1000 AA/AB/YA/YB engines, and the 1004-42 AR, 1006-60 YG, and 1006-60T YH family in P/N 1455747. That volume specifically assigns the G005 H3.50-5.00XL trucks to the four-cylinder 1004-42 AR. The Perkins 4.2482 is represented in the G005 maintenance, capacity, torque-reference, and diesel-schematic material, but this set does not include a separate 4.2482 internal-overhaul volume.

Electrical coverage is split by machine configuration. Five drawings separate early- and later-production gasoline/LPG circuits, the Perkins 4.2482 diesel circuit, and early- and later-production Perkins 1004-4 circuits. Another section covers GM V-6 gasoline and LPG harnesses, transmission and oil-clutch circuits, hydraulics, and U.S./EEC lighting options. Powershift coverage follows the torque converter, clutch packs, oil pump, control valve, Monotrol pedal, and direction lever through removal, repair, adjustment, and testing. It distinguishes early and later clutch-lubrication circuits and shows the pressure-test ports. For H3.50-5.00XL trucks, the later pedal-switch/linkage arrangement begins at serial F5D-1501 or F5A-7172; the cold-oil relief valve is not fitted after transmission serial T46M6999.

Hydraulic and load-handling chapters cover the main control valve, flow-divider/relief circuits, chain-driven pump, general gear-pump overhaul and flow testing, steering axle and steering control unit, and Vista two-stage limited-free-lift, two-stage full-free-lift, and three-stage full-free-lift masts. Carriage, side-shift, lift-chain, load-roller, strip-bearing, lift-cylinder, tilt-cylinder, and lowering-control-valve procedures are included. The brake section covers service-brake shoes, the master cylinder and booster, parking brake, system bleeding, pedal adjustment, and booster relief-valve checks.

Two cautions show the level of repair detail. Gear-pump housings must retain their original alignment because incorrect orientation can cause pump failure or accelerated wear. The Perkins Series 1000 chapter identifies a 1995 piston-and-ring change for the normally aspirated four-cylinder engine beginning at serial A------U664793Y; the revised parts are not interchangeable with earlier components and must be changed as a complete engine set.
