The 520-50 and 525-50 engine data identifies AA 50550, AR 50690, and RE builds; the 525-50S uses the AK 50669 turbocharged, low-emission build. Maintenance procedures distinguish A-Series and R-Series fuel, lubrication, and electrical arrangements. The hydraulic diagrams also identify the oil cooler, hydraulic cooling fan, and fan motor used only on the 525-50S. At machine serial 789471, the hydraulic-tank filler cap changes from the earlier screw type to the later bayonet type.

The electrical section covers relay and fuse identification, wire and harness numbering, multimeter test methods, battery testing, alternator charging and repair, starter-circuit diagnosis, and starter-motor repair. The fault-finding charts connect abnormal pressure, flow, heat, noise, clutch, and gear-selection symptoms to the appropriate inspection. In the hydraulic valve block, the manual warns that half-motor spools must return to their original bores; an incorrect build can cause improper operation and component damage. During SD40/SD55 drive-head repair, exceeding the specified pinion rolling torque distorts the collapsible spacer, requiring its replacement.

This issue also has no separate Section A Attachments or Section D Controls chapter; attachment coverage appears in routine maintenance and in the hydraulic Q-Fit carriage and hitch material. The foot brake valve is replacement-only, and JCB expressly prohibits dismantling it.

Before repair work begins, the manual requires the machine to be secured, the boom lowered or supported with the specified safety strut, electrical power isolated where directed, and residual hydraulic, tank, and brake-accumulator pressure discharged.
