Operational and Maintenance Data
This manual organizes routine upkeep around the actual Fastrac systems rather than a generic tractor maintenance schedule. Separate dry- and wet-clutch schedules cover daily/10-hour, weekly/50-hour, first 100-hour dealer service, 250-hour, 500-hour, 1,000-hour, and 2,000-hour intervals. Service points include PTO and propshafts, front and rear axles, steering swivels, hydraulic lift and three-point linkage, suspension pivots, brakes, cab filtration, cooling system, tires, ROPS structure, and engine service items.
Lubricant and capacity tables distinguish the different machine configurations. Hydraulic system capacity varies from 82 to 120 liters depending on tank and equipment specification. Engine lubrication data calls for SAE 15W/40 oil meeting the specified API CH-4 requirements, while axle and hub sections give the correct fill-level references rather than relying only on nominal capacities. Air-conditioning data covers HFC R134a systems, including different refrigerant charges for 2000 and 3000 Series machines.
Production changes matter on these tractors. The manual separates dry-clutch machines—2000 Series through S/N 739999 and 3000 Series through S/N 641999—from later wet-clutch machines beginning at S/N 740000 and S/N 642000 respectively. That distinction carries into the transmission, controls, electrical diagnostics, calibration procedures, and routine service schedules, making the serial number important before selecting a repair procedure.
Driveline coverage goes well beyond fluid changes. The dry version uses a 350 mm single dry main clutch, while later machines use a hydraulically actuated, oil-immersed multi-plate master clutch. The transmission combines a six-speed all-forward synchromesh speed gearbox with a high/medium/low/reverse synchromesh range gearbox and JCB Powershift splitter clutches. Powershift clutch pressure is specified at 13.5 bar (195 psi) at 1,500 rpm. Axle chapters also distinguish SD55 applications with standard NoSPIN or optional MaxTrac differentials from the SD70 self-engaging differential-lock arrangement used on the 3155 and 3185.
Specifications, Clearances, and Safety
Hydraulic repair and diagnosis are supported by circuit schematics, component overhaul sections, relief-valve checks, flow data, and pressure-test points. Early Type 1 external-hydraulic systems specify 77 L/min with the standard pump or 96 L/min with the optional pump at 2,400 engine rpm; later Type 2 systems specify 60 L/min at 1,500 rpm. Main relief pressure is 210 bar (3,045 psi). Rear suspension data adds a 200-bar pressure-maintaining-valve cut-out, 180-bar cut-in, and 75-bar accumulator charge specification. Brake-system operating pressure is 8 bar (120 psi), with wear limits given for foot-brake linings, parking-brake linings, and brake discs.
The electrical and electronic material includes conventional circuit testing as well as machine-specific diagnostics. Coverage includes instrument-cluster programming and error codes, ABS diagnostics, JCB Service Master applications, Data Link Adapter use, wheel-slip calibration, 4WS sensor calibration, Powershift clutch-overlap adjustment on dry-clutch machines, and Powershift/master-clutch calibration on wet-clutch machines. Electrical and hydraulic drawings are identified by system and machine family. Examples include the Main Wiring Diagram – 2000 Series Machines, Main Wiring Diagram – 3000 Series Machines, Transmission Hydraulic Circuit – Gearbox – Dry Clutch Transmission, the Type 1 and Type 2 External Hydraulics schematic circuits, the Brake System (Dry) (non ABS) layout, and the Steering System Description – Fastrac 2000 Series hydraulic circuit. These drawings support actual fault tracing and repair work rather than simply showing component locations.
Factory procedures include front PTO transfer-box and output-shaft service, Powershift and master-clutch pressure testing, hydraulic pump and control-valve overhaul, main-relief-valve testing, electronic draft-control diagnosis, 4WS calibration, steering pressure tests and wheel alignment, brake-valve testing, suspension ride-height and accumulator/gas-spring testing, and engine-unit removal and replacement. Optional-equipment sections add front hitch drop-flow control valve repair, front lift ram overhaul and pressure testing, flow-regulator service, and cold-starting equipment.
Engine coverage is configuration-specific. The 2115, 2125, 2135, and 2150 use the 5.985-liter New 1000 Series turbocharged six-cylinder engine, while the 3155 uses the 5.985-liter 1000 Series engine. The 2140 is identified with the 5.88-liter Cummins QSB and the 3185 with the 5.88-liter Cummins 6 BTA. The Fastrac manual covers engine technical data, engine-unit removal/replacement, and the wet-clutch flywheel damper; detailed internal engine and fuel-system repair is referenced to separate JCB engine publications, including 9806/0100 for the 3155, 9806/1170 for the 3185, and 9806/2220 plus fuel-system publication 9806/2230 for the 2140.
Several details are especially important during repair. Dacromet fasteners are lubricated by their plating process and the manual specifically warns against adding lubricant, since doing so changes the intended torque behavior. During Type 1 hydraulic-pump repair, an interference-fit plug set to a critical dimension must not be disturbed, and the bearing blocks and gears are treated as matched components; abrasive refinishing can destroy their manufacturing tolerances. The fuel-system sections also warn that running an engine while air remains in the system can damage the injection pump.
High-pressure hydraulic and suspension circuits, compressed-air brakes, rotating driveline components, and heavy tractor assemblies require the isolation, pressure-release, support, and lifting precautions specified in the manual before service work begins.
