Engine, Clutch, and Internal Transmission Work

Top-side and side-cover work can be performed with the engine/transmission in the frame; center-crankcase service requires removal. That distinction helps plan the disassembly and lifting equipment needed for the job.

Sample Engine Inspection, Oil-Pressure, and Assembly Specifications

Engine inspection data includes maximum cylinder-head/cover distortion of 0.05 mm and maximum crankshaft runout of 0.03 mm. Cold-engine intake valve/tappet clearance is 0.1016 mm, with checking and adjustment procedures in Periodic Maintenance.

The oil-pressure test specifies 0.7–1.4 kg/cm² at 3,000 RPM with the engine at operating temperature and the cooling fan cycling. The torque table lists the clutch-shoe-to-crankshaft fastener at 221 ft-lb (300 N-m), with red Loctite #271 specified.
