JCB service publication 9803/3640U-8 covers service and repair for the 506C from S/N 579781 and 506CHL and 508C from S/N 579569. Applicability is defined by machine serial number, with separate instructions for different engines, transmissions, and production changes.

Maintenance schedules distinguish A/R-Series from Dieselmax machines, covering daily through two-year tasks, with Dieselmax schedules extending to 6,000 hours/six years.

Functional checks include torque-converter stall speed, transmission main-line pressure, steering/phasing, MRV and ARV pressures, fan speed, hose-burst protection valves, and chassis leveling. The schedules also specify Load Moment Indicator checks/calibration.

Hydraulic quantities are nominal tank capacities; total system volume depends on equipment. Coolant, fuel, axle, and lubricant specifications are also provided.

Hydraulic and Production Variants

The 506C priority-valve excess-flow relief setting changes from 235 to 205 bar at S/N 587636. Revised pump configurations appear from S/N 1184000, when the 506C steering load-sense setting changes from 175 to 190 bar. Parking-brake procedures distinguish machines before and from S/N 586874.

Hydraulic fault tables address slow operation, ram creep, and parallel-lift faults. Component procedures cover control valves, hydraulic pumps, fan motors, ram seals, and bleeding. For work around a raised boom or an opened hydraulic circuit, the manual specifies boom support and release of stored hydraulic pressure.

Transmission Repair and Assembly Detail

Powershift instructions distinguish PS700 units with a reverser-shaft cover plate from sealing-plug versions and PS750 transmissions. Separate clutch-pack procedures accompany the PS700 Section Views and Torque Figures and PS750 Section Views and Torque Figures.

Main-line, individual-clutch, converter, and cooler pressure/flow tests support diagnosis before dismantling. Gear-selection and clutch-engagement tables help isolate a leaking clutch rather than treating every loss of drive as the same fault. Axle repair includes front/rear removal, spiral-bevel driveheads, hubs, brakes, and pinion-depth adjustment.

PTFE piston-ring seals projecting above the shaft can be cut during assembly. Excessive rolling torque can permanently distort a collapsible spacer, requiring replacement.

Wiring Diagrams and Circuit References

Electrical drawings include Syncro Shuttle Machines S/N 585397 to 587635 and Harness Data – Drawings and Interconnection, alongside Powershift and later JCB 444 wiring. Harness drawings and connector references help trace circuits across machine assemblies.

Engine Scope
