The multi-year reference combines its main repair chapters with a supplement covering changes unique to later models. The two Polaris service manuals provide separate model-specific procedures and specifications; match the publication to the machine before selecting parts, settings, or test data.

Coverage is not a continuous 2001–2005 run: the included publications cover 2001–2003 and 2005 Sportsman models, but no 2004-specific service publication is included. The multi-year model table specifically identifies the 1997 Xplorer 500 4x4.
