The Allis Chalmers WD tractor was an advance of previous Allis Chalmers tractors, including the A, B, RC, U, UC, WC, and WF.
After the founding of the agriculture tractor, the Firm turned to construction equipment. At that time, Monarch Tractor Establishment was already manufacturing crawler tractors for construction purposes. In 1928 Allis-Chalmers purchased the Monarch Tractor Company and continued and advance developed its line of crawler tractors. Of special reputation is the HD-15, which was manufactured in 1951. This was the first crawler tractor available with a torque converter drive. Get Allis Chalmers WD tractor repair manual download here.
Allis Chalmers continued its crawler, tractor, and agricultural implements production. However, like many other companies, they became financially strapped and were eventually forced to trade the farm equipment division to K-H-Deutz AG of Germany in 1985. Deutz Ag was bought by AGCO Inc. in 1990. Due to the reformation of the Allis lines of machines, the factories were shut down in 1988.
However, the new parent firm, AGCO, has extended the farm equipment business, mainly in Europe and South America (with large production facilities in Brazil). In 2004 AGCO entered the Fortune 500 list of America's largest establishments. Check out Allis Chalmers WD & WD-45 Tractor Service, Parts & Operators Manual download here.

Production of the Allis Chalmers WD tractor started in 1948, and production was continued on an annual basis until 1953. The WD was produced to be a replacement for the WC models, which was stopped in 1948.
The WD was then phased out after 1953, and the WD 45, G, and D series were then built instead. See different Allis Chalmers tractor models repair manuals download available.
In 1948 when the WD was being built, the favorite fuel at that time was referred to as "tractor fuel." Tractor fuel is what can be known as kerosene in the present day. However, because kerosene does not combust as gasoline does, it could not have been used to begin the engine. Hence, the WED was manufactured with a small gasoline tank. This was used to begin the tractor, and then the fuel type was changed to the kerosene tank when the engine was hot. Today's tractors that were created for kerosene are now completely operated on gasoline. You can learn more about this with the available Allis Chalmers tractor repair manuals download.
The engines were all made by Allis Chalmers and were designed for tractor fuel firstly, and then the later WD tractors for gasoline.
The WD tractor is notable by the single or double front wheel configurations. These tractors were not made with the wide front axle configurations that are typical of nowadays' tractors. The sole wheel used a casted "U" shaped support to hold the single wheel, with a wheel shaft between the two ends. The double wheel makes use of the unique inverted "T" shaped shaft, with the two wheels attached to both ends. All of the WD tractors were two-wheel-drive machines (2WD). Allis Chalmers WD tractor service repair manual download will teach more about this.
The WD tractors were built-in with a manual transmission, and these transmissions were created with four forward gears and a single reverse gear. This was used to offer thirty-six (36) hp rear 540 rpm PTO take-off shaft. Learn more about this with the service repair manual download.
The electrical arrangement was typical of the 6 volts (v) DC circuits that were common in the earliest designed tractors. These systems remain in operation today. However, a considerable number of farmers and other owners have changed the 6V electrical system to 12V systems. Allis Chalmers WD parts are easier to get for the 12V system than the traditional 6V systems.
Even though the hand crank systems made way to the 6V starting systems, the Allis Chalmers WD tractor continues to offer motive power for thousands of farms in North America.
