The Kymco is TOTALLY automatic and the newer models 2010 and above have a reverse gear. This is awesome: there is no need to scream at the children to shift up or feel worried that they'll bog-down while going up a hill. With the recent models of Kymco, there is peace of mind and less drama with full automation. Others are semi-auto, you don't have a clutch, but you do require shifting it. The Honda will also only turn in neutral, while the Kymco usually crank in any tranny configuration. How many times have we found the children claiming the quad won't begin, and they just put it in gear and can't grasp how they require putting it in neutral? Yes, it occurs...but never with the Kymco! Download KYMCO Mongoose KXR 50-90 Service Repair Manual here today.
The reverse gear of Kymco is nice. Around our campsite, we've seen (and rescued) several little kids stranded with their quads faced into a berm or all crossed-up in a dangerous position. A 50-70 pound kid can't operate a 230-pound quad very well. Trust it, the reverse is nice. You have watched the kid on the Kymco use reverse, and the kid with the Honda get off and begin the tug-of-war. Reverse = Good!!! The Kymco has an automatic choke that functions great...just turn the key, and it fires right up immediately: no choke to remember to turn-off, no doubting if little Johnson or Emily turned-off the choke. One less thing to consider or worry about and the kids don't require you to help them get it started.
Of course, the Kymco has a pleasant big headlight with low and High Beams...with the flip of a switch, the night lights. The Honda doesn't have headlight, and the OEM stator can't offer more than 10-watts of power. So you can't just put aftermarket lights that easily. You can pop over $120 to get a Ricky Stator aftermarket stator that'll aid up to 50 watts, which still isn't that much. Learn more about Kymco with Kymco People 150 Manual download.
The Kymco has a joined air fan that blows air over the engine making sure that the engine stays cool even if the children leave it running. Others of its kinds are just air-cooled fins...no fan.
The Kymco has a kick-start option; others do not. You can download KYMCO Mongoose KXR 50 90 ATV Workshop Manual, Repair Manual, and Service Manual download.
The Kymco also has a rear brake light that can stop another child from rear-ending them because the big bright red bulb actually sends out the message. Following others of Kymco kind, you best keep a close eye in front of you. Even 400 EX has brake lights. Learn more about the Kymco brake light with the Kymco manual.
The Kymco doesn't have a foot-operated brake, and to some, this is one set-back that they would like. Any child can instinctively use their foot to stop the quad, but hand levers can be a task with coordination and remembering which brake to use. Kymco did one thing right; they created the rear brake hydraulic and very easy to use....while the front brake is cable and fairly functional but not as likely to be locked up. The adoption process of using only hand brakes was fast, and little kid hands can easily work the hand brake lever...but do note, some 90-sized quads have regular levers, and the reach for a child's hand is just not there!
The rear suspension on the Kymco is similar to the TRX's, but the Kymco's front suspension is a little better...it has some real 'cush' and reducing, whereas the TRX is more pogo-stick stiff. Download Kymco People S 250 Workshop Service and Repair Manual today here.
The Kymco has Maxxis tires on all four corners...and the rear tires are athletic & wide with an impressive footprint. The TRX has these rounded donut utility-like tires that just don't appear right.
